Men's Soccer Downs Visiting Lyndon State, 6-1

MILTON, Mass.- Curry College defeated Lyndon State, 6-1, in men's soccer action on Sunday in Milton.  With the win, the Colonel's improve to 3-1 overall. The Hornet’s fell to 0-4 on the season.

The Colonels got on the board just 3:48 into the opening frame. Senior Nick Lawless (Hull, Mass.) scored his first of two goals on the day.  Senior Eric Guglielmello (Paxton, Mass.) sent Lawless a through ball and he one-timed it past Lyndon’s senior goalkeeper, Jason Gray (E. Thetford, Vt.).  Just under two minutes later, Curry tallied their second score when senior Zach Kumin (Needham, Mass.) earned his first goal of the season off an assist by senior Devin Sadlers (Somerset, Mass.).  Sadlers took a corner kick and Kumin tapped it in.  The Colonels final goal of the period came with 18 minutes left to play.  Sophomore Jonathan Hurley (Foxboro, Mass.) also scored his first of the season when he dribbled past the Hornets’ defense for an unassisted goal.  Johnson State would register their only goal at the 13:45 minute mark.  Senior Patrick Hilton (Lyndonville, Vt.) crossed the ball from the corner of the field and senior Kyle Mecham (Wilbraham, Mass.) headed into the back of the net past Curry’s senior goalkeeper Nick Barber (Pittsfield, Mass.).

The Colonels outshot the Hornets 23-4.  Curry had five corners and saw no shots on net.  Lyndon State did not have any corner kicks and made nine saves.

The Colonels put up three more goals in the second half for the, 6-1 victory.  With just under 10 minutes into the second half, Sadlers scored his first goal of the game, unassisted.  Lawless netted his second just 3:40 minutes later when senior Pat Dowling (Wrentham, Mass.) sent Lawless a pass just outside of the 18-yard box.  The sixth and final goal of the game came at the 22:50 minute mark.  Guglielmello headed the ball off a cross from Dowling.

Final shots were Curry 46 and Lyndon nine.  The Colonels finished with 10 corner kicks and the Hornets two. 

Barber made all five saves in net and allowed the lone goal in 79:42 minutes of play for the win.  Freshman Andrew Knighton (Lisbon, N.H.), finished in goal for the Colonels making zero stops. For the Hornets, Gray made nine saves and allowed three goals in 45 minutes of play.  Sophomore Jason Marks (Newtown, Conn.) played in goal for the second half and also made nine saves and allowed three goals in 45 minutes of play. 

The Colonels will host Johnson & Wales on Wednesday, September 12, for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference contest. Lyndon State will travel to Castleton State on Saturday, September 15, for a 5:00 p.m. game start.
