MILTON, Mass. –  The Curry College men's lacrosse team was defeated by Roger Williams University, 8-7, on Saturday afternoon at Walter M. Katz Field in the season finale on Senior Day.

The Hawks (8-3 overall, 4-3 CCC) got the scoring started 1:42 into the first quarter when senior Jared Grier (Quincy, Mass.) found classmate Tim Mullane (Hanover, Mass.) for the 1-0 lead. The Colonels (4-8 overall, 3-4 CCC) answered back with three straight: one apiece from senior Samuel Nielsen, sophomore Nick Perfetuo (Norwell, Mass.) and graduate student Jake Stebbins (Colchester, Vt.) to push the lead to 3-1. Roger Williams ended the run 3:15 later on a man-up marker from freshman Matt Halpin (Hanover, Mass.) with the assist going to Mullane. Curry netted the final two goals of the opening frame to carry a 5-2 advantage into the second quarter. Perfetuo picked up his second goal of the game while Nielsen followed with his second.

The Hawks outscored the Colonels, 3-0, in the second quarter to pull the contest even at five at the half. Senior Gabe Reale (Fairfield, Conn.) tallied the first two while senior Brenden Whitten (Kennebunk, Maine) fed Grier for the equalizer with 6:42 to go in the stanza.

The contest remained tight throughout the second half with neither team having more than a two-goal advantage. Curry built a 7-5 edge when freshman Albie DiBella (Norwell, Mass.) and graduate student Andrew DeLeary (Wakefield, Mass.) netted back-to-back separated by 2:48 of game time. Halpin put a shot past freshman goalie Evan Falandys (Leominster, Mass.) at the 9:24 to trim the deficit to one, 7-6, with one quarter to play.

Roger Williams tied the game at seven with 9:44 remaining on a goal from senior Peter Navarro (Londonderry, N.H.) with the assist going to Mullane. The Hawks scored the eventual game winner just over a minute later on a marker by Grier. Navarro was credited with the assist.
