Men's Lacrosse Doubles Up Nichols, 16-8

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's lacrosse team picked up a wire-to-wire 16-8 victory over Nichols College in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) tilt on Saturday afternoon at Walter M. Katz Field.

Nine players found the back of the cage for the Colonels (4-6 overall, 3-2 CCC) on the day, led by four goals from junior Dane Hanson (East Providence, R.I.). Graduate student Jake Stebbins (Colchester, Vt.) chipped in a hat trick and two assists. Graduate student Andrew DeLeary (Wakefield, Mass.) registered six points on two goals and four helpers while sophomore Nick Perfetuo (Norwell, Mass.) tallied two goals and a pair of helpers.

Junior Hunter Ferreira (Mansfield, Mass.) recorded a hat trick and two assists to pace the Bison (1-8 overall, 1-4 CCC).

Curry opened a 3-1 lead in the first quarter. Hanson and Stebbins started the scoring. Senior Brendan Coates (Grafton, Mass.) tallied the lone Nichols goal in the opening frame and Hanson found the back of the net off an assist from senior Samuel Nielsen (Fairfield, Conn.).

The Colonels extended their advantage in the second, outscoring Nichols 5-2 in the quarter. The teams traded goals that were separated by just 24 seconds in the first two minutes. DeLeary and Perfetuo each had tallies to give Curry a 6-2 lead with 3:30 remaining. Three goals were scored in the final 1:37 of the frame. Ferreira found the back of the net off a helper from freshman Colby Gillis (Northborough, Mass.) while senior Matthew Scahill (Gales Ferry, Conn.) and freshman Sawyer Allen (Sutton, Mass.) closed out the scoring with a goal each to give the Colonels an 8-3 advantage at the half.

Curry put the game out of reach in the third quarter, stretching the margin to nine, thanks to a 4-0 run that featured two man-up markers. Nichols came back with two straight, but Hanson put a shot past senior Griffin Jasin (St. Charles, Mo.) to make the score 13-5 heading into the final quarter.

The teams tallied three goals each in the fourth as the Colonels would hang on to capture the game by an eight-goal margin, 16-8.

Curry freshman goalie Evan Falandys (Leominster, Mass.) logged 55:03 between the pipes and made 11 saves. Jasin played three quarters in goal and stopped five shots for the visitors.

Allen went 19-for-26 at the face-off spot and picked up 10 ground balls to lead the Colonels.

Curry will next travel to Endicott College on Wednesday, April 28 for a 4:00 p.m. start. Nichols returns home to host Western New England University on Wednesday, April 28 at 4:00 p.m.
