Three From Men's Lacrosse Selected to NEILA East-West All-Star Game

AMHERST, Mass. – Three recent graduates from the Curry College men's lacrosse program will have the opportunity to play one more game as Cam Gainey (Truro, Mass.), Devin Newell (Medford, Mass.), and Zach White (Milford, Conn.) were selected to compete in the 2019 New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) East-West All-Star Game. All three Colonels will be a part of the East Team.

A total of 54 student-athletes will compete in this year's East-West Senior All-Star Game, showcasing the best of the region's players from all three divisions.

"This is a great opportunity to highlight the college careers of these young men. For many, it is one last time for them to play an organized game against such high competition. It is also a chance to compete with players you may have battled against throughout your college career," said Tim Murphy, head coach of Curry College and coordinator of the East-West All-Star team selection.

The NEILA East-West game also gives assistant coaches from some of the top programs each year the opportunity to take the reins as the coaching staffs of each team.

The coaches are also nominated by the head coaches who are members of the NEILA. It is a great opportunity for assistants to add their flare on the game.

This year, the West will be coached by Devin Callahan (Eastern Connecticut State), Connor Eschmann (Western New England), Will Roberts (Clark) and Mike Wilus (Plymouth State). The East will be head-manned by Rob Murray (Emmanuel), Jon Horgan (Saint Joseph's ME) and Jack Wilson (Curry).

Gainey, a 2019 Third Team All-Conference selection, saw time in all 18 games this season, starting 13 of them. He picked up 21 ground balls and caused 13 turnovers. Over his four-year career, he played in 54 games, making 20 starts. Gainey tallied one goal, 49 ground balls, and had 24 caused turnovers.

Newell was a repeat selection to the All-CCC Second Team after posting a team-high 59 points on 41 goals and 18 assists in 2019. Additionally, Newell netted his 200th career point this season and was named as the CCC Offensive Player of the Week on April 15. In his career Newell played in 69 games, making 55 starts. He tallied 125 goals and 86 assists for 211 points. Additionally, he had 16 man-up markers and three on the man-down. Newell also scooped up 146 ground balls and had 19 caused turnovers.

White played in all 13 games this past season, making 12 starts. He registered six points on three goals and three assists.
