MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's lacrosse team captured a 16-7 victory over Johnson & Wales University on Friday night in its regular season finale at Walter M. Katz on Senior Night.
The Wildcats fell to 4-12 overall while the Colonels round out the regular season an even 8-8.
Junior Harrison Fallon (Wrentham, Mass.) netted a game-high seven points on four goals and three assists goals to pace the Curry offense. Junior Andrew DeLeary (Wakefield, Mass.) followed with six points on four goals and two helpers. Senior Devin Newell (Medford, Mass.) registered a hat trick and two assists. Junior Cameron Nigro (Scarborough, Maine) was the final Colonels with multiple goals, scoring two.
Senior Ben Farrell (Baltimore, Md.) led the way for Johnson & Wales with three points on two goals and one assist. Sophomore Matt Gelb (Huntington, N.Y.) also had three points on one goal and two helpers. Senior Thomas Lyons (Burlington, Mass.) rounded out the visiting players with multiple goals, tallying a pair.
Curry started the scoring off 5:11 into the game as Newell netted a goal from the stick of Fallon. The goal marked Newell's 200th career point. The Wildcats had a quick response with an unassisted Farrell goal to knot the game at 1-1 with 8:43 left in the first quarter. The Colonels closed the frame with back-to-back scores, one apiece from DeLeary and senior Kyle Ton (Norwich, Conn.) to give Curry a 3-1 lead at the end of one.
The Colonels opened the scoring once again in the second quarter on a goal by DeLeary and the assist going to Fallon. Johnson & Wales trimmed the deficit to one on unassisted markers by Gelb and freshman Tyler Drago (Wakefield, Mass.). The home squad then embarked on a 3-0 scoring run on goals by Fallon, Newell, and Nigro to stretch the advantage to 7-3 at the half.
After a goal from Fallon to start quarter three, the Wildcats answered back with four straight markers, two on man-up opportunities. Farrell netted the first off a pass from Gelb. Lyons tallied the next two while senior Erik Lindaas (Milford, Pa.) scored the final one to trim the lead to 9-7.
The Lindaas goal would be the last tally for the visitors. The Colonels closed the game on an 8-0 run spanning 15:36 of game action. The spurt featured six different goal scorers, led by two each from DeLeary and Fallon as Curry came away with the nine-goal victory.
Senior Josh Teller (Milford, Conn.) was credited with the win in the cage, making 10 saves. Junior Bradley Morris (Bayport, N.Y.) took the loss for Johnson & Wales as he recorded 14 saves.
The Colonels held a 56-35 advantage on ground balls and were very protective of the ball, going 23-for-25 in clear attempts.
Curry has qualified for the upcoming Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament and awaits the announcement of its next opponent. Johnson & Wales rounds out the regular season on Tuesday, April 23 at Lasell College at 4:00 p.m.
