Fourth Quarter Run Sends Men's Lacrosse Past Plymouth State For Second Straight Win, 11-7

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's lacrosse team won its second game in a row on Thursday afternoon, defeating Plymouth State University by an 11-7 final in a non-conference showdown played at Walter M. Katz Field.

Curry's MJ Urbano (Wakefield, Mass.) scored a hat trick to lead all scorers. Matt Serra (Haverhill, Mass.) and Tom Cashin (Boxford, Mass.) had two goals each while four others had a goal apiece.

Griffin Jacobson (Windham, Maine), Connor Delea (Manchester, N.H.), and Paul Luongo (Northborough, Mass.) each netted two goals to pace Plymouth State. Delea also added one assist while Jake Burns contributed one goal and one assist.

The Colonels got on the board 7:21 into the game after Andrew DeLeary (Wakefield, Mass.) found Urbano for the first tally. The Panthers responded at the three minute mark as Luongo netted his first of the contest. Burns then gave Plymouth State the lead with an unassisted effort with 1:43 to play in the quarter.

Curry opened the second quarter with two straight goals, one each from Cashin and Cameron Nigro (Scarborough, Maine) to grab a one goal advantage, 3-2. The squads traded tallies over the final 4:08 of the frame as the Colonels would have the lead heading into the break when Urbano found the back of the net to grab a one-goal advantage into the break, 4-3.

Curry never trailed again, although the score remained close for the majority of the half. The Colonels finally gained some separation by scoring three straight goals to go up, 11-6. Plymouth State got on the board once more with an unassisted goal from Jacobson to close the scoring.

Curry goalie Josh Teller (Milford, Conn.) finished with 13 saves against 20 shots. Cashin led all players with six ground balls while Jack Boillotat (Hanover, Mass.) registered three caused turnovers to pace the Colonels defense.

Plymouth State goalie Zel Kerkel (Loudon, N.H.) made 19 saves against 30 shots. Kyle Stockman (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) won 9-of-19 face-offs in the game.

Curry (2-2 overall) will next play at Rivier University on Saturday, March 17 at 11:00 a.m. Plymouth State (1-1 overall) returns to action at Mass. Maritime on Sunday, March 5 at 3 p.m.
