Men's Lacrosse Falls in Regular Season Finale to UNE, 22-8

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's lacrosse team fell to visiting University of New England by a final score of 22-8 in their regular season finale on Tuesday night at the Walter M. Katz Field. The win moves the Nor'easters to 13-4 overall and 6-2 in the CCC. The Colonels conclude the regular season with a 9-8 overall record and 3-5 in the conference.

UNE started the contest on 3-0 run to open the contest. Dan Auger (Nashua, N.H.) got things started for the visitors with an unassisted tally. Just 53 second later Alex Zadworny (Florence, Mass.) put up a goal of his own of the unassisted variety. They capped the mini run at the 9:55 mark when Colin Morrow (Nashua, N.H.) found the back of the net off a pass from Andrew Curro (Niskayuna, N.Y.). Curry halted the run when Matt Serra (Haverhill, Mass.) scored to make the score 3-1. The University of New England would answer back before the end of the first stanza with two goals by Zadworny to give the sophomore a hat trick and the Nor'easters a 5-1 advantage at the end of one.

UNE outscored Curry 8-1 in the second quarter to grab a 13-2 lead going into the halftime intermission. Zadworny netted three, Auger and Mitch Mullin (Cumberland, Maine) had two and Tom Luttrell (Greenbrae, Calif.) scored once on the run. Jack McMenomey (West Linn, Ore.) scored for the Colonels with just 1:14 left in the half, off an assist from Devin Newell (Medford, Mass.).

The University of New England opened the second half with three straight goals, one apiece from Curro, Mullin and Phllip Young (Unionville, Pa.). Curry then went on to outscore the Nor'easters 4-3 over the final 8:45 of the third stanza. Newell found the back of the net twice while Tom Cashin (Boxford, Mass.) and Andrew DeLeary (Wakefield, Mass.) each scored once as the third quarter ended with the score 19-6 in favor of UNE.

DeLeary started the final quarter with a goal to make the score 19-7 but Young tallied a goal to answer back with 9:07 left in regulation. Newell had a tally of his own while Connor Leggett (Sunderland, Vt.) and Jacob Vanek (Gloucester, Mass.) closed out the game's scoring for the 22-8 final.

Auger led all student-athletes with nine points on four goals and five assists. Zadworny put up a game-high six goals while Mullin registered a hat trick in the victory. Seven other Nor'easter student-athletes tallied goals. Mullin led the team with seven groundballs.

Newell paced the Colonels with a hat trick. DeLeary finished with two goals while Serra, McMenomey and Cashin each put up a goal apiece in the loss. Newell led Curry with five groundballs.

David Pearson (Scarborough, Maine) picked up the win in the cage, making 12 saves in 54 and a half minutes. The loss goes to Shane O'Brien (East Falmouth, Mass.). The senior recorded six saves in 25:38 minutes of action.

Both Curry and UNE have qualified for the upcoming CCC Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament. The Colonels have been awarded the number five seed and will head to number four seeded Roger Williams on Saturday for a 4:30 p.m. start. The Nor'easters will be the three seed and will host number six seeded Nichols on Saturday at noon. Both games are a part of the CCC Quarterfinals.
