DUDLEY, Mass. – Behind a nine point performance from Devin Newell (Medford, Mass.), the Curry College men's lacrosse team notched its second straight victory Sunday afternoon with a 19-10 win over Nichols College at Vendetti Field. The Colonels improve to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in the CCC. The Bison fall to 7-4 overall and 1-2 in league play.

Nichols opened the contest with a goal by Jack Zaremski (Dorchester, Mass.) off an assist from Paul Tessier (Mirror Lake, N.H.). Curry answered back at the 8:33 mark when Newell netted his first goal of the contest with the assist going to MJ Urbano (Wakefield, Mass.). Seven second later, the Colonels would grab the 2-1 lead on a goal by Zach White (Milford, Conn.). The back and forth quarter continued when MacKenzie Martin (Merrimack, N.H.) tallied a goal off an assist from Jack Campanale (Shrewsbury, Mass.) to knot the game at two with 4:18 remaining in the stanza. Curry would then close the quarter with two straight goals, one apiece from Dakota Sanders (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) and Newell to grab a 4-2 lead at the end of one.

Newell continued his strong play in the second quarter, tallying the first two goals for the Colonels to put the visitors up by four at 6-2. Nichols answered the two goal run with two straight of their own. Tessier found the back of the net, thanks to an assist from Tyler Sikich (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) and then Martin made it a two goal game with a goal off an assist from Cole Fontana (Grafton, Mass.) with 7:36 left in the half.

Curry would outscore Nichols 4-1 over the final 6:52, thanks to goals from Jack McMenomey (West Linn, Ore.), Dominick Marcella (Hull, Mass.), Newell and White to carry a 10-5 advantage into the halftime intermission.

The Colonels started the second half on a 3-0 run off of two straight goals by Matt Serra (Haverhill, Mass.) and one from Andrew DeLeary (Wakefield, Mass.) to grab an eight goal lead (13-5) with 6:53 left in the frame. Zaremski halted the Curry run when he found the netted a goal off a pass from Sikich to close out the scoring in the third quarter.

The Colonels would outscore the Bison 6-4 in the final quarter of play, thanks in big part to two separate 3-0 runs. Urbano, Tom Cashin (Boxford, Mass.) and McMenomey each scored on the first run. Reece O'Connor (North Grafton, Mass.) and Martin scored a goal apiece to cut the Curry lead in half at 16-8.

Urbano, McMenomeny and Newell each tallied goals to ignite the second 3-0 run of the quarter to close out the offensive output for the Colonels. Sikich and Matt Feigenblat (Shelton, Conn.) each found the back of the net in the last minute of the contest to make it a 19-10 final.

Newell led all players with nine points on six goals and three assists. McMenomey netted a hat trick while Urbano, Serra, and White added two goals each. Sanders, Marcella, DeLeary, and Cashin pitched in one goal apiece to round out the scoring. White paced all players with nine ground balls.

Martin led Nichols with four points on three goals and an assist. Fiegenblat and Zaremski tallied two goals apiece while three others tallied one each to close the scoring for the home team.

Shane O'Brien (East Falmouth, Mass.) picked up the win in the cage, recording 15 saves in 60 minutes. Brian McKinley (Nashua, N.H.) was credited with the loss. He made 15 saves in 60 minutes of action.

Curry returns to action on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. when they welcome in conference member Western New England to Walter M. Katz Field. Nichols hits the road for a league game on Wednesday at Endicott at 4:00 p.m.
