Men's Lacrosse Edged By Norwich, 9-6

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Curry College men's lacrosse team dropped a 9-6 non-conference contest at Norwich University at Sabine Field in Northfield, Vt. The Cadets improve to 1-4 on the season while the Colonels drop to 3-3.

Norwich began the contest with two straight goals, one apiece from Alex Bowen (Davidson, N.C.) and Tristan Lynch (Dunstable, Mass.). Curry answered the two goal spurt with a 3-0 run. Jack McMenomey (West Linn, Ore.) got the scoring started off an assist from Devin Newell (Medford, Mass.) at the 7:42 mark. The Colonels continued the run when MJ Urbano (Wakefield, Mass.) found the back of the net to knot the game at two. Curry would take the 3-2 advantage with 2:23 left in the first when Richard Robinson (Dedham, Mass.) finished off a pass from Dominick Marcella (Hull, Mass.).

The Cadets went on to outscore the Colonels by a score to 4-0 in the second quarter to build a 6-3 lead. Aidan Moulton (Danvers, Mass.) got the frame started with a goal off an assist from Ian Kennedy (Gloucester, Mass.) to tie the game at three. Norwich then got goals from Nolan Aurelia (Stratford, Conn.), Cody Moore (Canton, N.Y.) and Matt Shea (Arlington, Mass.) to go up by three tallies.

The Colonels would then outscore Norwich 2-1 in the third to pull within two goals. Andrew DeLeary (Wakefield, Mass.) inched Curry closer off an unassisted tally and then Jake Stebbins (Colchester, Vt.) made it a one goal game with an unassisted goal of his own. The Cadets responded with a goal of their own before the end of the frame. Josh Jenkins (Centennial, Colo.) took a pass from Moore with 2:19 left in the quarter and put it past the Curry netminder.

Norwich would close the contest by outscoring the Colonels 2-1 in the final quarter to take the game by a 9-6 final. Moulton registered his second goal of the contest, once again off an assist from Kennedy with 11:11 left in regulation. Newell fired back with a goal of his own off an assist from Marcella to pull with two and then the Cadets closed the contest with a tally by Kennedy.

Moulton and Jenkins finished with two points apiece while six others registered a goal apiece for the home team. Jack Dwyer (Shelburne, Vt.) paced Norwich with eight groundballs in the victory.

Curry got single goals from six different players on the night while Chris Bronander (Glen Ridge, N.J.) led the way with six groundballs.

Tyler LoPorto (Weston, Fla.) got the win in the cage for the Cadets, making 10 saves while Josh Teller (Milford, Conn.) was credited the loss for the Colonels. He made seven saves in 30 minutes.

Curry will return to action on Saturday against Gordon at home at 3:00 p.m. for their conference opener. Norwich will also play Saturday when they travel to Regis (Mass.). Faceoff is slated for 4:00 p.m.
