Men's Lacrosse Tops Rivier in Non-Conference Action, 16-6

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's lacrosse team defeated visiting Rivier University 16-6 in non-conference action at Walter M. Katz Field on Saturday afternoon. The Colonels improve to 3-2 while the Raiders slip to .500 at 2-2.

Curry opened the contest on a 4-0 run in the first quarter, shutting out Rivier. Devin Newell (Medford, Mass.) found Matt Serra (Haverhill, Mass.) for the first two tallies and then Jack McMenomey (West Linn, Ore.) was the beneficiary of another Newell pass to make it 3-0. Dominick Marcella capped the stanza with an unassisted goal to make the game 4-0 Colonels at the end of one.

Marcella tallied two straight goals to open the second quarter to complete a hat trick to push the score to 6-0. McMenomey and MJ Urbano (Wakefield, Mass.) each recorded single tallies to help the Colonels cap an 8-0 run.

With 4:29 left in the first half of play, the Raiders would get on the board with a goal by Tyler Tambouris (Hooksett, N.H.) to make it 8-1.

Curry continued their strong play in the second half, beginning the third quarter on a 4-0 run to build a 12-1 lead. Andrew DeLeary (Wakefield, Mass.) started the scoring in the frame with an unassisted goal. McMenomey and Brandon Flaim (Pembroke, Mass.) added unassisted tallies to extend the lead to 10. Serra capped off the run with a goal off an assist from Michael Staines (West Hempstead, N.Y.). Tambouris then closed the quarter with his second goal, this time off an assist from William Ryan (Dorchester, Mass.).

Rivier opened the final quarter of action with two straight goals to cut the deficit to eight. Max Tucci (Newton, Mass.) found the back of the net off an assist from Eric Guinasso (Pelham, N.H.) at the 14:21 mark. Ryan then took a pass from Sean Brady (Tewksbury, Mass.) and deposited it in the back of the net to put the score at 12-4.

Curry answered the Raider mini-run with three straight goals. Urbano got things started with a goal off an assist from Newell to push the lead to nine and then Serra tallied two straight to increase the lead to 11.

Rivier outscored the Colonels 2-1 over the final 3:07 to close to within 10 at the end of the contest. Joe Kelland (Watertown, Mass.) netted a goal to put make the score 15-5. McMenomey scored with just 2:59 left off an assist from Harrison Fallon (Wrentham, Mass.) and then Brady closed the game scoring to make the final score 16-6.

Serra led all players with five goals. McMenomey posted four of his own and Marcella pitched in a hat trick. Urbano finished with two tallies while Flaim and DeLeary closed out the scoring with one apiece.

Tambouris paced Rivier with two goals while Kelly, Brady, Tucci and Ryan scored a goal apiece to close out the scoring for the Raiders.

Josh Teller (Milford, Conn.) was credited with the win in the cage, making nine saves in 60 minutes of action. Matt Cloutman (Peabody, Mass.) recorded the loss, registering nine stops.

Curry will hit the road for their next game as they will travel to Norwich for a 5:00 p.m. faceoff on Wednesday. Rivier will next play Wednesday at UMass Boston at 7:00 p.m.
