Men's Lacrosse Defeats Salem State, 15-5, in Non-Conference Matchup

Salem, Mass. - MJ Urbano (Wakefield, Mass.) scored three goals as Curry College ran away with a 15-5 victory over Salem State on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field. The Colonels remain unbeaten on the year at 6-0 while Salem State slips to 3-2.

David Dempsey (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Alex Pearsons (Burlington, Mass.) each collected a pair of goals for Salem State while Thomas Lyons (Burlington, Mass.) added a score. Matt Serra (Haverhill, Mass.), Jeff Yates (Albany, N.Y.), Jack McMenomey (West Linn, Ore.) and Dominick Marcella (Hull, Mass.) each had two goals while Ryan Ofgant (Natick, Mass.), Brandon Flaim (Pembroke, Mass.), Wade Prajer (Southbury, Conn.) and Tom Cashin (Boxford, Mass.) all added a goal for Curry.

Salem State opened the scoring as Dempsey notched his sixth goal on an assist from Pearsons at the 10:29 mark. Curry's McMenomey went low to beat goalie Kevin Lally (Beverly, Mass, Mass.) to tie the game at 1-1. Lyons put the Vikings back on top before the Colonels tied the game again on a score from Yates. Curry College built a 5-2 lead in the second, scoring three unanswered goals by Urbano,Flaim and Marcella to take a 5-2 lead into the half.

The Colonels dominated the third quarter, outshooting the Vikings 12-5 while building a 9-3 lead. Urbano connected for his second goal before Dempsey answered for Salem State. However, three straight scores by the Colonels pushed the margin back to six. Curry put the game away in the final frame, scoring six times to cruise to the 15-5 win. Pearsons added two scores for the Vikings in the quarter while Serra added back-to-back goals for the Colonels. Goalie Chris Schaub (Brewster, N.Y.) replaced Lally in the fourth and allowed two goals while making three saves.

The Colonels outshot the Vikings 38-20, including a 24-7 margin in the second half. Steve Grogan (Sandwich, Mass.) owned the faceoff circle for Curry, winning 16-of-19 (.842%). Shane O'Brien (East Falmouth, Mass.) made seven saves to move to 5-0 on the year while Lally suffered the loss, allowing 13 goals while making nine saves.

Salem State travels to Mass Maritime for a 7:00 PM game Tuesday while Curry hosts Johnson & Wales on Wednesday with a 3:30 start.
