Men's Lacrosse Toppled by League Rival Roger Williams, 17-7

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Lacrosse team kept its win streak alive Friday afternoon, earning a 17-7 win over Curry College to collect the team's sixth straight victory.

Roger Williams came out the gate firing, with Jon Gomer (Duxbury, Mass.) winning the opening face-off and coming down the field to score 20 seconds into the game. His goal would be followed by scores from Will Siefert (Duxbury, Mass.) and Eddie Hill (Somers, Conn.) to put RWU on top 3-0.

Jeffery Yates (Albany, N.Y.) and John McMenomey (West Linn, Ore.) each scored goals to bring the Colonels back within one, but the Hawks stormed back with four straight goals, spanning into the ten-minute mark of the second quarter. Siefert scored twice, with Eric Valenti (North Reading, Mass.) and Hill adding a goal apiece to make it a 7-2 Hawk lead.

Yates and McMenomey later scored to help bring Curry closer, making it a 4-8 deficit with 5:35 left in the second quarter. However, the Hawks would break the game open, scoring three goals before halftime to take an 11-4 lead. Roger Williams would then outscore the Colonels 4-0 in the third quarter to take a commanding 11-point lead.

In the final period, Curry tallied three more tries, with Matt Serra (Haverhill, Mass.), Brendan Strobel (Trumbull, Conn.), and Dominick Marcella (Hull, Mass.) adding a goal apiece. However their scores were sandwiched around goals from Anthony Gallo (Bridgewater, Mass.), and Cameron Signorelli (Albany, N.Y.).

Luke Aubrey (Norwalk, Conn.) had eight saves in the win for the Hawks. Siefert finished with seven points on six goals and an assist, while Tim Kelly (Ridgefield, Conn.) added four assists for RWU. Hill and Valenti each scored a pair of goals.

Daniel Martin (Pittsfield, Mass.) allowed 11 goals in the first two quarters with eight saves in the loss. Yates and McMenomey each scored twice and added an assist, with Serra adding one goal and one assist.

Roger Williams (8-3, 3-1 CCC) will face Wheaton on Wednesday, while Curry (4-6, 1-2 CCC) hosts Gordon on Tuesday.  (Game Recap Courtesy of Roger Williams Sports Information)
