Men's Lacrosse Tripped Up 15-10 by Visiting Salem State

MILTON, Mass. – Curry College lost to Salem State 15-10 in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at the Walter M. Katz Field.  The Colonels evened out their overall record to 3-3 with the loss while the Vikings improved to 3-2 on the season with the win.

Sophomores Joseph Grogan (Sandwich, Mass.) and John McMenomey (West Linn, Ore.) each tallied three goals to lead the Colonels offensively. Senior Ronald Jensen (Zionsville, Ind.) added three assist and junior Connor McKeon (Larchmont, N.Y.) chipped in with two helpers.

Vikings' junior Ben Melaugh (Billerica, Mass.) tallied three goals and had two assists for a game-high five points. Junior Alex Pearsons and senior Andy Rice (Weymouth, Mass.) each recorded three goals. Junior Bobby Bourgeois (Billerica, Mass.) assisted on two tallies.

Salem State opened up the scoring with two quick goals less than two minutes into the game. Curry responded with two of its own to tie the score 2-2 before the Vikings would net one more to regain the lead heading into the second period.

The second period saw a total of 12 goals in just 15 minutes of play resulting in five ties. The Colonels outscored the Vikings 7-5 for a halftime advantage of 9-8.

The Vikings came out strong in the second half with three unanswered goals in the first five minutes. At 9:13 Curry received its final tally of the game from junior Joseph Shea (Arlington, Mass.). The Vikings pulled away in the final period netting three more, two off the stick of Pearsons and one from Max Gansenberg (Beverly, Mass.) to secure the victory.

Both teams finished with 47 total shots. Curry went 16 for 26 on face-offs and 15-18 on clears.  Salem went 10-26 at the face-off X and was successful on 17 of 19 clears. 

Colonels' sophomore goaltender Shane O'Brien (East Falmouth, Mass.) made eight saves in 30 minutes of play in net and senior Daniel Martin made six stops in 30 minutes (Pittsfield, Mass.). Vikings' senior goalkeeper Dylan Svenson (Billerica, Mass.) stopped 16 shots for the win.

The Colonels are next in action when they travel to Norwich University on Wednesday, March 25 at 4 p.m. The Vikings will host Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Tuesday, March 24 at 7 p.m.
