With the snow piling up in New England, most people haven't even begun thinking about spring. For the Curry College Men's Lacrosse team, the 2015 season is already rolling. The Colonels have been preparing for the season as they focus on getting better each day as a team and improve from last year.
With training underway, the players are getting fit and honing their skills. The Colonels return 22 players, and add 14 new players to the team. Coach Murphy is looking for his returning players to set the tone and pace in practice, as well as expecting the newcomers to work hard and push those returning. The Colonels staff anticipates a strong 3-way battle in the faceoff department among senior Peter Duggan, Sophomore Matt Boyd, and freshman Steven Grogan.
Defensively, the Colonels expect to be strong returning senior Dan Martin in goal, senior Matt DeLaney and sophomore Dan Wise at defense, and sophomore Christian Rappa at LSM. Some new faces to look for in the defensive half are freshman Chris Bronander, freshman Chris McGreevy, and freshman Jack Boillotat.
On the offensive end, a few faces from last year to watch are senior Connor McKeon and sophomore Jack McMenomey at attack, as well as junior Joe Shea and sophomore Dom Marcella at midfield. A few underclassmen who are expected to make an impact are sophomore Joe Grogan and freshman Cole Franklin as midfielders, alongside Matt Serra and Jeff Yates, both freshmen attackers.
The goals for the Colonels during the 2015 season are to continue to stick to the process of getting better and improving every day. The Colonels are looking at the extremely tough Commonwealth Coast Conference schedule as an opportunity to raise their competition level and work towards their goal of making the conference tournament. Coach Murphy is also stated that he is looking at some upperclassmen to adjust to new roles, and work with the underclassmen to push one another every day at practice. He hopes that the underclassmen will be ready to make an immediate impact on the field on February 28th when the Colonels host Johnson and Wales at Katz field, for the first test of the 2015 season.
