Men's Lacrosse Earns First Win of the Season Defeating Maine Maritime, 11-3

MILTON, Mass. In a non-conference match up in men's lacrosse on Saturday afternoon, Curry College defeated Maine Maritime, 11-3. With the win the Colonels even their overall record to 1-1.  The Mariners fell to 0-1 overall. 

Curry jumped out to a 5-0 halftime lead en route to their first victory of the season.  Senior Connor Arnold (Clifton Park, N.Y.) accounted for the only goal of the opening quarter on a man-up situation.  Arnold was assisted by junior Ronald Jensen (Zionsville, Ind.).  The Colonels added four unanswered tallies in the second for a five goal total in opening 30 minutes.  Curry got two goals from Jensen, one unassisted and one off a pass from freshman Dominick Marcella (Hull, Mass.).  Junior Sean Ahern (Natick, Mass.) netted one from Arnold and freshman John McMenomey (West Linn, Org.) earned his first point on the season.   

Senior Nick Snelling (Colchester, Vt.) found junior Nicholas Betti (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) to get the Mariners on the board in the third and junior Bronson Guimond (Portland, Maine) followed an Ahern score with a man-up goal off a pass from Betti to make it 6-2 with 6:04 left in the quarter. The Colonels went on another five goal run to lead 11-2 with 7:25 left in the game. Jenson scored his third on the day on a short-handed goal unassisted.  Ahern tallied another two, one from freshman Kevin Vincens (Ellington, Conn.) and another from Arnold.  Senior Harrison Foster (Saddle River, N.J.) and Marcella each had scores with Arnold assisting on both for a game total of four.  Maine Maritimes sophomore Tim Grant (East Northport, N.Y.) netted the final goal of the game with 5:04 left in regulation. 

Arnold led Curry with five points on one goal and three assists while Jensen and Ahern each had four points.  Jensen had four goals and an assist and Ahern had four tallies.

Betti led Maine Maritime with a goal and an assist for points and Guimond and Grant each picked up a goal.

The Colonels sophomore goaltender Tim McNair (Wilmette, Ill.) stopped 13 shots for the win. The Mariners netminder senior Gavin Cote (Arundel, Maine) picked up 10 saves between the pipes in the loss.

Curry travels to Norwich on Tuesday, March 4 in a 3:00 p.m. game.  Maine Maritime returns to action on March 14 hosting Mass. Maritime at 7:00 p.m.
