Men's Lacrosse Announces 2014 Schedule

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College Men's Lacrosse team has finalized their 2014 spring schedule. This year the Colonels will compete in 16 games plus a preseason scrimmage against Clark on February 22nd.

The first regular season contest will be a non-conference tilt  at Wheaton College, which will be the first meeting of the two schools in the regular season. The non-conference play will continue into March as Curry will take on Maine Maritime, Norwich, and Southern Maine on the 1st, 4th, and 8th of the month. The Colonels edged out Norwich (7-5) and Southern Maine (14-13 OT) last season, respectively. While both games in 2013 were at the friendly confines of Katz field, this year Curry will be on the road to try to repeat their success.

During the week of spring break, the Colonels will travel to Charlotte, North Carolina to take on Becker College and Manhattanville College. While the team is excited about the trip, the focus will be on business, as they play an improved Becker team and a tough match-up with Manhattanville.

After returning from break, the Colonels will look to avenge a hard loss in 2013 against Salem State when they travel up to the in-state, but non-conference rival Vikings on March 19th. Then on the 22nd the Colonels will host Montclair State (NJ), in what will be the final non-conference game before the Colonels start play against Commonwealth Coast Conference opponents.

When asked about some changes to the non-conference schedule, Coach Murphy replied, "We wanted to strengthen our out of conference schedule a bit, to mirror the toughness of our league games.  As a staff we feel the teams we added to the schedule, along with the ones we kept, will better prepare us for an always tough CCC slate."

The CCC schedule kicks off with a home game against Salve Regina on March 26th, before three straight away match ups with Western New England (March 29th), Gordon (April 1st), and Wentworth (April  9th). Curry will return home to play Roger Williams on April 12th, before heading north to play the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine on the 15th. The Colonels will round out the regular season with games against conference opponents Nichols College and Endicott College at home on the 18th and 23rd of April.

Despite success last season in their non-conference schedule (7-1), the Colonels finished a disappointing 0-8 in CCC play. With that in mind Coach Murphy emphasized, "The focus will always be on the upcoming match-up.  We cannot completely focus on our league until we get to that point of the season.  Our goals are to prepare to play one game at a time, make sure that we are improving each day, and hopefully be playing our best ball starting the end of March."

The Colonels are certainly keeping that in mind as they continue to work hard in the classroom and weight room in preparation for what looks to be an exciting 2014 season.
