Eelis was born in Oulu, Finland...is majoring in business administration at Curry, with a minor in accounting...the son of Maria and Kimmo Laaksonen...has two brothers, Niklas and Kasper...favorite spot on campus: Student Center...chose Curry for the opportunity to play on the men's ice hockey team...also a member of the Curry club men's golf team

Eelis is a 2019 graduate of Mattlidens Gymnasium in Espoo, Finland...played junior hockey for Espoo Blues U20 and Islanders Hockey Club of the United States Premier Hockey League...won a U20 SM-Liiga Silver Medla in 2019

Appeared in 28 games for the Colonels...ranked second on the team with 28 points and 16 assists...tied for a team-high 12 goals...named CCC Player of the Week on January 29, 2024...named CCC Second-Team All-Conference

More Major Awards For Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey

The New England Hockey Writers Association announced today that three men’s and two women’s ice hockey players earned 2024-25 New England Division II-III All-Star status for their outstanding play throughout the season.

Curry College ice hockey received several accolades from the American Hockey Coaches Association, headlined by Shane Soderwall, who earned the 2025 Sid Watson Award, an honor given to the best DIII men’s player in NCAA hockey. Soderwall and Eelis Laaksonen were also named the 2024-25 CCM Hockey/AHCA Division II-III Men’s All-American Hockey Teams, while Peter Roundy earned AHCA Coach of the Year.

Men’s Ice Hockey Dominates CNE Postseason Awards

Curry College men's ice hockey dominated the Conference of New England Postseason Awards, earning four of the five major awards while placing four athletes on the All-Conference First Team, while achieving five total All-Conference players. The awards were announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon and aim to highlight some of the best programs, players, and coaches in the conference.
