Hockey Doubles Up Wentworth in Conference Action

CANTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's ice hockey team erased a two-goal deficit after one period and defeated Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponent Wentworth Institute of Technology by a 6-3 final on Friday night at the Canton Ice House in front of a packed crowd.

After the win, the Colonels move to 11-3-2 overall and 6-2-1 in the CCC, while the Leopards fall to 6-9-1 overall and 2-6-1 in league play.

Wentworth jumped out in front by two goals separated by just over a minute of game time. Freshman Guillaume Bose (San Jose, Calif.) found the back of the net off of an assist from classmate Anthony Blad (Suffield, Conn.) at 5:06. The Leopards doubled their lead 1:13 later on a marker by sophomore (Jake McKenelley (Middleton, Mass.). The helpers were credited to seniors Adam Tracey (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) and Connor Busch (Lake in the Hills, Ill.).

Curry outscored Wentworth 3-1 in the second to tie the contest. Junior Eetu Selanne (Coto de Caza, Calif.) found himself all alone against one Leopard defender and beat freshman goaltender Connor Carbo (Barre, Vt.) to cut the deficit in half. Wentworth had the quick answer with a goal 17 seconds later on a tally by junior Jake Hallisey (Quincy, Mass.), which was set up by classmate Brenden Lloyd (Merrick, N.Y.) and freshman Sam Milnes (Middletown, R.I.). The Colonels then closed the frame with two straight goals, one by sophomore Alex Ochterbeck (Dallas, Texas) and a power play marker from senior Billy Vizzo (Shelton, Conn.) as Curry entered the final period tied at three.

Ochterbeck and junior Michael Snow (Medford, Mass.) scored back-to-back power-play goals while junior Matthew Henderson (Scarborough, Maine) tacked on the final score to make the final score 6-3 in favor of Curry.

The Colonels converted on a third of their power plays (3-for-9) while the Leopards went 0-for-4. Curry outshot Wentworth 62-37 in the contest.

Senior goaltender Justin Ketola (Cloquet, Minn.) made 34 saves in the victory. Carbo finished with 56 stops in defeat.

Curry and Wentworth will complete its home-and-home series on Saturday, January 25 at the Allied Veteran's Memorial Rink in Everett, Mass. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
