CANTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's ice hockey team tied No. 7 Salve Regina University by a score of 4-4 in double overtime and then moved past the Seahawks in a shootout 1-0 in Commonwealth Coast Conference Conference (CCC) on Saturday afternoon at the Canton Ice House in the six annual Teddy Bear Toss.

The Colonels tallied the first goal of the game on a marker by junior Viktor Jansson (Stockholm, Sweden) with 6:34 remaining in the opening frame. The tally was set up by sophomore Alex Ochterbeck as teddy bears rained down on the home ice of Curry. Salve Regina knotted the game at 17:54 on a goal by freshman Cayden Kraus (East St. Paul, Manitoba). The helper was credited to junior Erik Udahl (East Walpole, Mass.). The Seahawks pulled out in front just 41 seconds later on an unassisted shorthanded goal from Udahl as the visitors took a 2-1 into the locker room after one.

Curry outscored Salve Regina 3-1 in the second to claim a 4-3 advantage. Jansson found himself back in the action with his second goal of the game, coming from assists by Ochterbeck and sophomore Mic Curran (Arlington, Mass.) just a second under two minutes into the stanza on the power-play. The Seahawks answered back with a goal by junior Danny Eruzione (Winthrop, Mass.). The Colonels then rallied for two tallies, one from senior assistant captain Billy Vizzo (Shelton, Conn.) and the other from junior Michael Snow (Medford, Mass.).

Salve Regina netted the equalizer with just a tick over a minute remaining in regulation on a marker by Kraus. Sophomore Derek Neal (York, Beach, Maine) and Udahl picked up assists on the goal. Neither team could find the back of the net in the final minute, sending the game into overtime.

After two five-minute scoreless overtime periods, the contest would head to a shootout. Following two empty rounds with no scoring, Ochterbeck found the back of the net to put Curry out in front 1-0 in the shootout. The Seahawks had one final chance to extend the shootout and Eruzione's shot was saved by Curry senior goaltender Justin Ketola (Cloquet, Minn.) to end it.

The Colonels outshot Salve Regina 47-32 for the contest.

Ketola made 28 saves in net for the Colonels. Sophomore Tony Rehm (Madison, Wisc.) converted 47 stops for the Seahawks.

Curry (8-3-2 overall, 5-2-1 overall) will return to action in 2020 when the Colonels host Franklin Pierce University on Saturday, January 4 at 2:50 p.m. Salve Regina (8-1-1 overall, 6-0-1 CCC) return to action on Tuesday, December 10 at New England College for a 7:00 p.m. start.
