No. 15 Hockey Clipped By Fredonia State in Shootout

RUTLAND, Vt. – The No. 15 Curry College men's ice hockey team was taken the distance by Fredonia State and was utimately edged 1-0 in a shootout in the opening round of the Castleton University Invitational on Friday afternoon at Spartan Arena.

The two teams played a scoreless contest through three periods and then headed into one five-on-five sudden death overtime frame for five minutes. They followed with a three-on-three portion of overtime. After no scoring in either overtime segment, the game headed to a shootout.

In the shootout, the Blue Devils' first shooter was freshman Malcolm Arseneau (Fredericton, New Brunswick). The attempt was stopped by the Colonels' sophomore goaltender Vladimir Cibulka (Bratislava, Slovakia). Senior assistant captain Billy Vizzo (Shelton, Conn.) missed the first opportunity for Curry. Junior Jasper Korican-Barlay (Oakland, Calif.) tallied the lone goal as he squeaked a shot past Cibulka for a 1-0 lead. The Colonels needed to find the back of the net to extend the shootout, but sophomore Mic Curran (Arlington, Mass.) saw his shot get saved by Fredonia State senior goaltender Anton Rosen (Orsa, Sweden) as the contest would end with the Blue Devils advancing with the 1-0 shootout victory.

Fredonia State outshot Curry 32-28. Both teams went 0-for-3 on the power-play in the contest.

Cibulka made 32 saves in net for the Colonels. Rosen converted 28 stops for the Blue Devils.

Curry (8-1-1) will face the host Spartans in the consolation game of the Castleton University Invitational on Saturday, November 30 at 1:00 p.m. Fredonia State (1-5-2) advances to the championship game of the tournament and will square off against Nazareth College tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.
