No. 15 Hockey Pulls Out 5-4 Victory Over Stonehill

FALMOUTH, Mass. – Senior assistant captain Billy Vizzo (Shelton, Conn.) netted the game-winning goal with just eight seconds left in regulation to send the No. 15 ranked Curry College men's ice hockey team to a 5-4 victory over Stonehill College on Tuesday night at the Falmouth Ice Arena.

The Skyhawks struck first on the lone goal of the opening period. Sophomore Mike Seoane (Norwell, Mass.) tallied the marker off of assists from freshman Brendan Nehmer (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior Seth Murray (Gloucester, Mass.) 5:26 into the first frame.

The Colonels answered back just 25 seconds into the second period on a goal by junior Tristan Morin (Unionville, Conn). Sophomores Alex Ochterbeck (Dallas, Texas) and Mic Curran (Arlington, Mass.) picked up the helpers on the equalizer.

Stonehill jumped back out in front over five minutes later on a marker by senior Jack Scannell (Medfield, Mass.) with the assist going to classmate Nicholas Godin (New London, N.H.).

Curry knotted the contest 7:14 into in the period on a goal by Curran. The assists were awarded to junior Joseph Thielen (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Ochterbeck as the Colonels tied the game at two. Curry then built a 3-2 advantage on a power-play tally from Thielen with the helpers coming from junior Eetu Selanne (Coto de Caza, Calif.) and senior captain Jordan Williamson (Okotoks, Alberta) as Curry gained a 3-2 margin.

The Colonels increased the lead to 4-2 following the first goal of the season from junior assistant captain Tyler Lindstrom (Brooklyn Park, Minn.). Morin and Curran picked up helpers on the marker.

The Skyhawks got back-to-back power-play goals from freshman John Peloso (Townshend, Vt.) to tie the game at four with the second coming with 4:37 remaining in regulation.

Vizzo came through with the game-winner off of helpers from Curran and Ochterbeck to send Curry home with the 5-4 victory.

Curry outshot Stonehill 40-19 on the night. Both teams went 2-for-5 on the power-play.

Junior Cody Murch (Raleigh, N.C.) was credited with the victory, converting 15 saves. Senior Matthew Schoen (Tolland, Conn.) made 35 stops in the setback.

Curry (8-1-0 overall) will next play against Fredonia on Friday, November 29 in the Castleton University Invitational. Face-off is set for 4:00 p.m. Stonehill (1-4-1 overall) returns to the ice on Saturday, November 30 at home against Bryn Athyn College. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
