Hockey Edged By Endicott in CCC Opener

BEVERLY, Mass. – The No. 14 Curry College men's ice hockey team fell to Endicott College by a 2-1 final on Friday night at the Raymond J. Bourque Arena in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener for both sides.  

The Colonels were first to get on the scoreboard 5:25 into the opening period. Sophomore Nick Magill- Diaz (Troy, Mich.) scored his second goal of the season with the assists going to junior Viktor Jansson (Stockholm, Sweden) and freshman Mark Zhukov (St. Petersburg, Russia).

The second frame saw Endicott net the equalizer. Senior James Winkler (York, Maine) tied up the contest at the 1:06 mark of the second period with the assists coming from classmates Jack Kilty (Medway, Mass.) and Bump Lisk (Lawrenceville, N.J.).

With the contest tied 1-1 early in the third period, graduate student Luke Rodgers (Clarkston, Mich.) collected a blocked shot in the slot and shot home his second goal of the season at 4:55 to give the Gulls the eventual victory.

The two teams were even in the shot category at 29 apiece. The Colonels were 0-for-7 on the PP while Endicott was 0-for-5.

Senior goaltender Justin Ketola (Cloquet, Minn.) recorded 27 saves in net in the loss. Sophomore Conor O'Brien (Pinellas Park, Fla.) made 28 stops in the win.

The two teams will complete the home-and-home series tomorrow, November 9 at the Canton Ice House. Puck drop is set for 2:50 p.m.
