Hockey Sweeps CCC Weekly Awards

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Three members of the Curry College men's ice hockey team swept the first Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) weekly awards, as announced by the league office on Monday. Sophomore Alex Ochterbeck (Dallas, Texas) was named as the CCC Player of the Week, senior Justin Ketola (Cloquet, Minn.) picked up CCC Goaltender of the Week, while freshman Mark Zhukov (St. Petersburg, Russia) is the CCC Rookie of the Week. All three played a pivotal role in the Colonels' opening weekend, which featured victories over two nationally-ranked opponents.

Ochterbeck earns Player of the Week honors after he had an assist in a 3-1 win over No. 12 UMass-Boston and had two goals in a 4-2 victory over No. 15 Babson. Additionally, he finished the week with a plus-five rating.

Ketola, the conference Goaltender of the Week, was the backbone for the Colonels leading the team to a 2-0-0 week. The senior had 28 saves in the win over the Beacons and then had another 33 saves in victory against the Beavers. Ketola had a .953 save percentage and a 1.50 goals-against average for the week.

Zhukov picks up his first Rookie of the Week award after he had an impressive opening week for Curry. The newcomer tallied a goal in each contest, including the game-winner with 2:02 remaining in regulation in the victory over No. 12 UMass-Boston. As a part of Zhukov's opening week, he had a plus-two rating in two wins over nationally-ranked opponents.

Ochterbeck, Ketola, Zhukov, and the No. 14 Colonels open conference play on Friday, November 8 at Endicott College at 7:15 p.m.
