BOSTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's ice hockey team rallied from one goal down and tallied three in the final eight minutes to defeat nationally-ranked UMass Boston on Friday night, 3-1, at the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink in the season opener. 

Despite being outshot 12-3 in the first, the Beacons got on the board with 6:42 left in the frame. Junior Zack Bross (St. Louis, Mo.) found the back of the net for his first goal of the season. The assist on the marker was awarded to senior Nolan Redler (Winchester, Mass.).

The second period saw the teams nearly even in the shot category with UMass Boston having a slight advantage, 11-10. After two stanzas, the contest stayed as a one-goal game.

The Colonels knotted the equalizer with 8:47 left in the third period as sophomore Nick Magill-Diaz (Troy, Mich.) put one past UMass Boston senior goaltender Bailey MacBurnie (Beverly, Mass.). The assists on the goal went to sophomore Mic Curran (Arlington, Mass.) and junior Tyler Lindstrom (Brooklyn Park, Minn.). Curry then tacked on the eventual game-winner off the stick of freshman Mark Zhukov (St. Petersburg, Russia) for his first collegiate marker. Junior Eetu Selanne (Coto de Caza, Calif.) picked up the helper. The Colonels pitched in one more goal before the end of the contest, the final being an empty netter by Curran from a setup by Lindstrom with six seconds left for the 3-1 final.

Curry went 0-for-5 on power plays while UMass Boston was 0-for-2. The Colonels had 32 shots, compared to 29 for the Beacons.

Senior Justin Ketola (Cloquet, Minn.) converted 28 saves in net for Curry in the victory. MacBurnie had 29 stops in net for the Beacons in the setback.

Curry (1-0-0 overall) returns to the ice tomorrow, November 2 for a road contest at Babson College at 4:00 p.m. UMass Boston (0-1-0 overall) will look to rebound tomorrow as they host the Wentworth Institute of Technology at 4:00 p.m.
