Fast Start Leads Hockey Past Western New England, 7-1

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's hockey team got goals from seven different players as they defeated Western New England University with a 7-1 final on Friday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Max Ulin Rink.

The Colonels improve to 4-4-2 overall and 3-3-1 in the CCC with the victory. The Golden Bears fall to 1-9-0 and 0-7-0 in conference play.

Curry lit the lamp first as they netted the first goal 7:59 into the first period.  Sophomore Michael Snow (Medford, Mass.) tallied his eighth goal of the season as he beat Western New England senior goaltender Kevin Gollmer (Flourtown, Pa.) to give the Colonels a 1-0 advantage off assists by seniors Lionel Mauron (Lausanne, Switzerland) and Zach White (Milford, Conn.). Curry tacked one on later in the frame as Mike Pellegrini (Markham, Ontario) found the back of the net 16:23 into the frame. The helpers on the goal went to Mauron and Snow.  

The Colonels added another two goals in the second period, outshooting the Golden Bears, 15-7 and holding them scoreless. White got in the scoring column 10:06 into the stanza with the assist being registered to Mauron. The home squad then scored with 59 seconds to go in the period as freshman Alex Octerbeck (Dallas, Texas) found the back of the net for his third goal of the season. The assists on the goal went to sophomore Kasper Kjellkvist (Vaxjo, Sweden) and freshman Vilhelm Peltonen (Helsinki, Finland).

Western New England snapped the Curry scoring run with its lone goal 5:44 into the final period. Matt O'Dea (Orland, Park, Ill.) took advantage of a power play opportunity and put a shot past Colonels' sophomore goaltender Cody Murch (Raleigh, N.C.). The assist on the goal went to Steve Beck (Milton, N.Y.). Nearly two minutes later, Curry answered back with a short-handed goal from junior Anthony Trujillo (Toronto, Ontario) and the assist going to White. The next tally didn't come until the 17:50 mark as Mauron capped off a solid night with a goal. The helpers on the goal went to Joseph Thielen (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and White. The Colonels found the back of the net once more before the end of the period as Kjellkvist got in the action with his fourth goal on the year, this one on a power play. The assists on the marker were awarded to senior Mack Heisinger (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and Mic Curran (Arlington, Mass.).  

Curry outshot Western New England by a 34-21 margin and converted on one of its seven chances with a man advantage. Murch made 20 saves between the pipes for the Colonels. Gollmer finished the night with 27 stops.

Curry returns to action on Saturday, December 1 as they travel to Wentworth for a 5:00 p.m. puck drop. Western New England will also be in action tomorrow as they host Becker at 7:00 p.m.
