Ice Hockey Falls to No. 6 Salve Regina, 8-5

MILTON, MASS. – Lionel Mauron's (Lausanne, Switzerland) two goals and Zach White's (Milford, Conn.) three-point night was not enough as the Curry College men's ice hockey team fell to the No. 6 Salve Regina University, 8-5, in the Commonwealth Coast Conference weekend finale Saturday afternoon at Max Ulin Rink.

The loss is the first for the Colonels during their 2018-19 campaign (3-1-2, 2-1-1 CAA) while the Seahawks improve to 2-1-1 overall and in the CAA.

John McLean's (North Andover, Mass.) began his hat-trick night at the 3:32 mark of the first period that handed the Seahawks an early 1-0 advantage.

Curry would respond by scoring the next two goals in the period.  Mauron knocked in his third goal of the season with assists by Kasper Kjellkvist (Vaxjo, Sweden) and White at 10:46.   Michael Snow (Medford, Mass.) continued the scoring on a short-handed goal with the help from Joseph Thielen (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and White.

Salve Regina's Danny Eruzione knotted the game at 2-2 in the first period with a power-play goal at the 13:27 mark.

To start off the second period, Salve Regina would score the next three goals and take a 5-2 lead.  Paul Boutoussov (Dana Point, Calif.) and Eric Lipa (Lockport, N.Y.) each collected power-play goals while Matthew Dillon (Grafton, Mass.) added a short-handed goal.

Mic Curran's (Arlington, Mass.) power-play goal at the 15:58 mark on the heels of Jordan Williamson (Okotoks, AB) and Alex Ochterbeck (Dallas, Tex.) assists began Curry's comeback aspirations.  Williamson added a power-play goal in the final two minutes of the period that brought Curry within one goal, 5-4.

Facing a two-man advantage Head Coach TJ Manastersky, pulled goaltender Justin Ketola (Colquet, Minn.) for the extra skater on the ice.   During the three-man advantage for Curry, Salve Regina's McLean collected an empty-net goal that handed the Seahawks a 6-4 lead.

Curry's Mauron tallied his second goal of the night on White's third assist in the contest brought the Colonels within one goal, 6-5, with 2:48 left.

The Seahawks punched in two more short-handed goals by Boutoussov and McLean in the final two minutes of the game for a final score of 8-5.
