Hockey Claims Buffalo State Bengals Classic Title

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Curry College men's ice hockey team captured the Buffalo State Bengals Classic title, edging the host Bengals 3-2 in non-conference play on Saturday night.  

After a scoreless first period, Mac Wood (Simcoe, Ontario) put the home team on the board just 2:25 into the second as he raced after a puck that was collected off a blocked shot. Buffalo State tacked on another goal with on a score by Braeden Doust (Jamesville, N.Y.). Curry answered back with a power-play goal from Mick Curran (Arlington, Mass.) midway through the frame and tallied the equalizer just 33 seconds later on a goal from Lionel Mauron (Lausanne, Switzerland) with the assist going to Michael Snow (Medford, Mass.).

The Colonels carried the momentum through most of the third period and netted the game winner on the power play with 4:15 remaining on a goal from Viktor Jansson (Stockholm, Sweden). The assists on the marker went to Curran and Jordan Williamson (Okotoks, AB).

Curry finished with a 34-25 advantage in shots, including 28-15 over the final two periods.

Cody Murch (Raleigh, N.C.) registered 23 saves in the contest for the Colonels. Trevor Micucci (Hamburg, N.Y.) finished with 31 saves on the night. Curry finished 2-for-6 on the power play. The Bengals were 0-for-7.

Jansson and Justin Ketola (Cloquet, Minn.) were named to the All-Tournament Team for Curry.

Curry (1-0-1) opens Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play on Friday, November 2 at Becker at 7:00 p.m. Buffalo State (1-1-0) will next host Brockport on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
