Zach White Nets a Hat-Trick as Hockey Edges 10/11 Nationally-Ranked Salve Regina, 3-2

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. - Junior forward Zachary White (Milford, Conn.) registered his first career hat-trick for visiting Curry College as it defeated the Salve Regina University men's hockey team 3-2 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Saturday night.

Series and Streaks

The Colonels own a 26-9-1 record all-time over the Seahawks.

Three Stars of the Game

1.            Curry junior Zachary White accounted for all of the Colonels scoring. His final tally came on the powerplay in the third period and proved to be the game-winner.

2.            Curry freshman Cody Murch (Raleigh, N.C.) made 35 saves while allowing two goals to improve to 4-1-0 in net on the season.

3.            Salve Regina junior Blake Wojtala (Trenton, Mich.) made 24 saves in net while allowing 3 goals to fall to 13-4-2 between the pipes for the Seahawks.

Turning Point

Facing a 2-1 deficit, the Seahawks found themselves trailing heading into the third period for just the fourth time all season. A hooking penalty gave the Colonels their fourth powerplay of the evening and Zachary White converted at 7:17 for his third goal of the night, giving the Colonels a 3-1 advantage. Kyle Moore (Cumming, Ga.) would answer shortly after with wrister from the right-wing side to draw the Seahawks within one again at 8:54. The teams traded powerplay opportunities again yet neither could find another goal. With 49 seconds remaining and a faceoff outside the Colonels zone, the Seahawks opted to pull Wojtaka for the extra skater after a timeout. The Seahawks registered three shots on goal, all saved by Murch, and two more that missed or were blocked in the final seconds before time ran out on a Seahawks comeback attempt.
