Hockey Program to Host Fourth Annual Teddy Bear Toss Saturday

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College Hockey Team's Annual Teddy Bear Toss fundraising event will be held on Saturday, December 2 when the Colonels take on the Johnson and Wales University at 4:50 p.m. This is the fourth consecutive year that the Curry College Hockey team has hosted this fundraising event. This year's beneficiary will be Christmas in the City, a non-profit organization that helps the homeless and families below the poverty line in the Greater Boston area during the holiday season. The annual Teddy Bear Toss event has been raising money and collecting bears/toys for the less fortunate during the holiday season since its initiation in 2014 and continues to have an emotional impact on recipients and participants alike.

Everyone interested can help these families in need. In the week leading up to the game, the players from the hockey team will have a booth set up in the Student Center for people to buy a Teddy Bear Toss T-shirt, buy a teddy bear to toss, or make a donation of some kind. Then during the game, once the Colonels score their first goal you get to throw your teddy bear on to the ice in celebration of the goal.  The bears are collected and brought to Christmas in the City (along with the money collected from donations and t-shirt sales) and distributed to all of the children and families in need.

"This event is one small way we can give back to the community and we look forward to it each year," said Junior defenseman, Mack Heisinger. "The goal of this game is to get the campus and community involved, creating a memorable night for people at the rink, and a memorable holiday season for those we are trying to help."
