Hockey Suffers a 3-2 Loss to Becker College in ECAC Northeast Action

MILTON, Mass.- In an ECAC Northeast Conference match-up in men's ice hockey action on Thursday evening at the Max Ulin Rink in Milton, Mass., Curry College lost to Becker College, 3-2. The loss drops the Colonels to 0-4-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the ECAC Northeast. The Hawks improve to 1-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the ECAC Northeast conference.

Curry and Becker were pretty even in shots through the first period of play at 13-12 in favor of the Colonels. The hosts also outscored the Hawks 2-1.  At the 8:13 minute mark Curry got on the board after scoring a power-play goal.  Becker's senior David Kann (Lafayette, Calif.) was called for a trip at 7:49 and 24 seconds later Curry's senior Shane Harrington (Mansfield, Mass.) took a slap shot just over the blueline.  Junior Jake Heisinger (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and freshman Lionel Mauron (Lausanne, Switzerland) were credited with the assists.  Just over five minutes later the Colonels took advantage of another man-up situation after junior Christopher Pantaleo (Staten Island, N.Y.) got called for interference.  A little over a minute into the PP sophomore Adam Valadao (Ajax, Ontario) gave his team a 2-0 led.    Freshman Mack Heisinger (Winnipeg, Manitoba) won the puck off the face-off. Heisinger sent it over to senior Brian White (Santa Ana, Calif.) who found an open Valadao in front of the net.  Valadao one-timed it with White and Heisinger earning the assists.  The lead was cut to one when the Hawks tallied their first on the night with just 1:09 showing on the clock.  Junior Bryan Parsons (Shrewsbury, Mass.) collected the puck just outside the crease sending it over the shoulder of Curry's junior goaltender Brett Sinclair (St. Catharines, Ontario).  Parsons was helped from Kann and sophomore Corey Sherman (Hilton, N.Y.).

Becker tied the game midway through the second period.  The Hawks intercepted a Colonel pass at the middle of the ice.  The interception gave Becker a 2-1 man-up advantage in Curry's defensive end.  Sherman skated with the puck until sending a pass to Nikolas' Nasby (Newberg, Ore.) for the tying score.  The Hawks junior goaltender Tyler Stepke (Mars, Pa.) was solid between the pipes making 13 stops holding the Colonels scoreless.

Curry had a chance to net the go ahead goal after Becker was called for hooking just 1:06 into the final stanza.  After scoring both of their goals on power-plays they looked to do it again however Stepke came up with a couple huge stops.  Becker took advantage of a missed pass by the Colonels one minute into the PP giving junior Connor Merrick (Manchester, N.H.) a one-on-one with Sinclair.  Merrick was able to maneuver the puck around Sinclair for the short-handed tally and eventual game-winner.  The Colonels outshot the Hawks 25-12 over the 20 minutes of play but couldn't find the back of the net.

Curry went 2-5 on power plays while Becker was 0-3. The Colonels finished with a game-high 51 shots and the Hawks 35.

Curry's Sinclair made an impressive 32 saves in net for the Colonels. Stepke had and impressive 49 stops in net for Becker.

Curry returns to action on Saturday, November 14 when they travel to ECAC Northeast opponent Suffolk University in a 7:00 p.m. game start. Becker hosts ECAC Northeast opponent Salve Regina on Sunday, November 15 in a 7:30 p.m. game.
