Hockey Team Holds End-of-Season Banquet

MILTON, Mass. - On April 8, 2015, the Curry College hockey team gathered for the annual banquet to celebrate the season and to recognize the seniors including Braeden Ruud, Jordan Reed, Chris Mason, and Derek Mohney.

In addition to the award presentations and recognition of the seniors, the Captains for 2015/16 were announced. Forward, Sean Nelson will serve as Team Captain and defenseman, Brian White will serve as Assistant Captain.

Other highlights include 4 players honored with ECAC All-Conference Awards and 17 players selected to the All-Academic Team.

Description Team Awards

Jeremy Hmura Academic Excellence: Jeremy graduated in 2009 Summa Cum Laude with a 3.92 GPA in Management and a minor in English and Applied Accounting. In addition to his impressive academic resume and serving as a tutor in the Writing Lab on campus, he was also a key contributor on the ice. He was a 2 year captain with a knack for short-handed points. The Jeremy Hmura Award is given to the Curry hockey player who best exemplifies a student-athlete with a high level of hockey ability combined with an outstanding academic performance. 

Matthew Randall Rookie of the Year:  Matthew was the son of Residence Life staff member Michael Randall.  A very big supporter of the ice hockey program, he never missed a game, set up student activities' events at hockey games, fan busses to away tournament games, etc. His son, Matthew died as an infant. We have named the Team Rookie of the Year award in honor of Matthew Randall.

Gregory T. Spagnoletti Most Valuable Player:  Greg is a hockey Alum '89 who while working as the Vice President of Fixed Income Trading at Keefe, Bruyette and Woods which was located on the 89th floor of the World Trade Center's South Tower became a victim of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. His legacy lives on as we have named the team Most Valuable Player award in honor of Gregory T. Spagnoletti.

Sean Bennett Award for Competitive Team Spirit and Commitment to the Community: Sean Bennett was our first teammate from Team Impact which is an organization with a mission to improve the quality of life for children with life-threatening illnesses. Sean's strength, passion and smile motivate our team to compete with honor and humility. The Sean Bennett Award is given annually the Colonel Hockey player that best represents competitive team spirit with a commitment to service in the community. Carrying on Sean's legacy, is our new teammate, Aidan Collins from Randolph, MA

Founders of Curry College: The Founders of Curry College award recognizes a Curry Hockey Alumnus who has shown outstanding support of the College and hockey program over the years.
