Hockey Team Will Hold a Teddy Bear Toss for Hospitalized Children

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College Hockey Team will be sponsoring a Teddy Bear Toss on November 22 at 4:30 p.m. at the Max Ulin Rink during the Colonels game vs. Wentworth.

Said Head Coach T.J. Manastersky: "The Teddy Bear Toss is an idea that came directly from the players. The Teddy Bear Toss idea was born out of Curry sophomore Jake Heisinger's idea to do something to help children who are in the hospital over the holidays receive some joy. From this idea came the "Teddy Bear Committee" put together by Jake, including his teammates, senior Jordan Reed and sophomores Brett Sinclair and Tyler Vankleef. These players have put in a great effort to create awareness and work on the logistics of the event. As the coach am very proud of their initiative as it is the truest example of our commitment to our community, both on campus and off."

Goals:

  • Provide joy and a memorable holiday season for children in the hospital.
  • Create an opportunity to connect the Curry College community, including athletics, student body, faculty and staff.
  • Connect the Curry Hockey team and Milton community in support of this cause.

What is a Teddy Bear Toss?

  • Fans with teddy bears and stuffed animals throw them on the ice in unison immediately following the first goal scored by the Curry Colonels.
  • Players collect the stuffed animals and take them off the ice.
  • Stuffed animals are donated to local children's hospitals.

If you are unable to make the game but would like to donate a teddy bear for the toss, please feel free to drop one off at the Athletics Department, located on the lower level of the Student Center, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.  There will be a box in the athletics lounge that you can put the teddy bear in.
