Hockey Drops Conference Game to ECAC Northeast Rival Wentworth, 2-1

MILTON, Mass. - In an ECAC Northeast match-up in men's ice hockey on Thursday evening in Milton, Mass., Curry College lost to Wentworth, 2-1. With the win, the Leopards improve to 11-11-2 on the season and 9-4 in the ECAC Northeast conference. The Colonels fell to 8-13-2 overall and 4-8 in the conference.

The first period saw no scoring. Wentworth had the advantage and more chances as they outshot Curry 15-7.

The Leopards opened the scoring at 16:53 of the second frame on a goal by senior Andrew Yarber (Livonia, Mich.). He was assisted by sophomore Jake Diamond (Lakewood, Colo.). The goal held up for the remainder of period as Wentworth went into the final stanza with a 1-0 lead.

The Colonels tied the match just 1:23 into the final period. The goal came off the stick of sophomore Brandon Gilmore (Quincy, Mass.) from senior Brad Devereaux (Duxbury, Mass.) and freshman Jake Heisinger (Winnipeg, Manitoba).  Both teams battled to find the back of net but it was the Leopards however who regained the lead at 14:34 on what proved to be the game-winning goal.  This time is was Diamond who netted the puck from teammate Yarber.

The Colonels' junior Derek Mohney (Amherst, N.Y.) turned aside 35 shots in the loss. Sophomore Joel Miller (Calgary, Alta.) made 31 total saves for the Leopards in the win.

Curry will be back in conference action on Saturday afternoon as they host Becker College beginning at 4:40 p.m. Wentworth will travel to ECAC Northeast foe Suffolk on Saturday for a 4:40 p.m. game.
