BUFFALO, NY—Curry (4-8-2) controlled play in the second period and converted a pair of odd bounces into two goals to surge past host Buffalo State (7-8-3) for a 3-2 victory in a non-conference game tonight at the Ice Arena.
Brett Hope (Blenheim, ON/Blenheim) opened the scoring with a power-play goal off a backdoor feed from Mike Zannella (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca). The Colonels pulled even later in the opening frame on Tyler Vankleef's (Dundas, Ontario) third goal of the season.
Curry took the lead 5:27 into the second when the puck caromed off a sliding Bengals' defenseman onto the stick of Brad Devereaux (Duxbury, Mass.), who slid the puck into an open net. The Colonels struck again less than five minutes later when a shot by Frankie Posillico (Massapequa, N.Y.) pin-balled into the back of the Buffalo State net. Todd Graham's (Park Orchards, Australia) seeing-eye point shot pulled the Bengals within one later in the second period, but neither team would score the rest of the way.
Buffalo State finished with a narrow 30-28 advantage in shots, but Curry had a 15-9 edge in the middle stanza. Kevin Carr (Unionville, ON/Unionville) had 27 stops for the Bengals, and Derek Mohney (Amherst, N.Y.) made 25 saves for Curry. Buffalo State finished 1 for 5 on the power play, and Curry was 0 for 3.
Buffalo State will return to SUNYAC play next Friday when it hosts Cortland at 7 p.m. Curry plays Fredonia State tomorrow in a 3:00 p.m. game start. (Game Recap Courtesy of Buffalo State Sports Information)
