NEW LONDON, Conn. – Senior Keith Veronesi (South Glastonbury, Conn.) had two goals on the night, but the Camels were unable to hold off a tenacious Curry College team in the 4-4 tie played in Dayton Arena on Saturday night.
The Camels now hold a 2-9-1 record overall, while the visiting Colonels now stand at 2-8-2.
Junior Jordan Reed (Ajax, Ontario) led the Colonels with two goals on the night. Tyler Vankleef (Dundas, Ontario) and Dominic Puntillo (Amherst, NY) also each chipped in with a score. Tommy Tsicos (Barrie, Ontario), Frankie Posillico (Massapequa, NY), Chris Mason (Monrovia, Calif.) and Michael Vallescuro (Woodbridge, Ontario) all added an assist to the point tally for visiting Curry College.
Freshman goaltender Brett Sinclair (St. Catherines, Ontario) had a solid 34 saves on the night.
Veronesi led the scoring for the Camels with two goals, also adding an assist. Rookies Ryan Mowery (Rancho Santa Fe. Calif.) and Brian Belisle (Cumberland, RI) both contributed a score on the night. Senior Steve Servideo (Medford, Mass.) led the passing with two assists, while Mike Doyle (Merrimac, Mass.), JC Cangelosi (Estero, FL) and Adam Rimmer (Newbury, Mass.) each chipped in with an assist.
Senior net-minder Mike Petchonka (Ridgefield, Conn.) had 25 saves on the night, with 4 important blocks late in overtime play.
The Camels got on the board first with a power play goal by Veronesi as he finished a rebound on the far pipe. Conn. held strong on defense, and led 1-0 after the first period.
With just over 13 minutes left in the second, Reed found the puck off a pass through the slot by Tsicos, and finished a hard one-timer to tie the game 1-1. Curry then took the lead for the first time in play, when Vankleef found the net one-handed while the Colonels were two men down. But the Camels did not let the lead last as rookie Mowery was able to put one away off a rebound with just under 3 minutes left in the third. The score would remain tied, 2-2, at the end of the second period.
It would then be the Camels who kicked off scoring in the third period. With just under 5 minutes elapsed, Veronesi found the net for the second time. Then, about a minute later, rookie Belisle hit a low wrister from the face off dot, giving the Camels a 4-2 lead.
But the Colonels would not go quietly. Late in the second, Puntillo hit a hard slap shot from outside on a power play possession. Just as the Camels thought they would make it out on top, Reed put in his second of the night, with only 45 seconds remaining, tying the score 4-4.
Both teams played solid defense during overtime play, leaving the result at 4-4.
The Camels will face Amherst College at Dayton Arena on Friday, Jan. 17 at 7pm. The Colonels host SUNY Canton on Sunday, Jan. 12 for a 4:40 p.m. start. (Game Recap Courtesy of Connecticut College Sports Information)
