Hockey Earns First Win of the Season Defeating Westfield State, 3-2

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Freshman forward Dan McGinnis tallied a goal and assist in the second period as Curry College defeated Westfield State University in a non-conference ice hockey game on Thursday, Nov. 7.

Curry (1-1) snapped a 1-1 tie with two second-period goals. McGinnis scored 14:01 into the period to give the Colonels a 2-1 lead, then assisted on senior forward Ryan Gay's goal four minutes later. 

Westfield (0-3) cut the lead to one, 3-2, on a power play goal by freshman Jackson Leef with 8:13 left in the game, but Curry controlled the action for its first victory of the season.

The Owls took a 1-0 lead 1:36 into the game when freshman Jake Goldberg scored off a rebound. The Colonels knotted the score 5:59 into the first stanza on a freshman forward Tyler Vankleef goal. 

Curry outshot Westfield, 43-30, including a 32-18 advantage in the final two period.  Freshman netminder Brett Sinclair earned his first start in goal for the Colonels making 28 saves in the win.
