Four Sports Hold Alumni Games During April
MILTON, Mass. - Curry College saw four Alumni Games held during the month of April 2013. Both the men's and women's soccer programs, the men's ice hockey program and the men's lacrosse program welcomed back their former student-athletes for a day of competition and reminiscing.

On Saturday April 13, twenty-five former Colonels returned to Walter M. Katz Field to take on the current Curry Soccer squad. The game kicked off with the alumni controlling play but as the game wore on the current squad was able to put away some chances for the victory. A wonderful barbeque put on by parents ended the day as alumni, players, and families laughed and shared stories of their time on campus. “It was a fantastic day, it was so nice coming back, getting a run in, and hanging out with the Curry Soccer Family,” said Mike Griffin, Class of 2012. Head Coach Peter Mendel stated: “Our Alumni Game continues to grow every year and seeing these guys come back to campus and interact like they never left lets me know we are creating a wonderful tradition.”

On Saturday April 13, several former Colonels returned to Walter M. Katz Field to play a friendly match against members of the current Curry Women’s Soccer Team. Head Coach Jason Tassinari stated: “Connecting the present with the past is very important to me and my coaching staff. I was so happy that my current players could make an emotional and visual connection with some of the players who paved the way for where they are today. I am quite sure that this particular alumni game was the start of an annual tradition, with the numbers getting larger and larger  each year."

Alumni who participated included Brooke Moore (’12), Lindsay Trudeau (’12), Kelly Howe (’12), Sam Hardy (’12), Jen Trama (’08), Kristine Ebert (Sanborn) (’05), Morgan Ottone (’08), Hilary Catala (Baker) (’01), and Caitlin Brennen (Gray) (’05), Ashley Hansbury (’10), Suzi Jensen (’11)

There was a tremendous turnout to the 12th annual Curry Hockey Alumni Game, including Hall of Famers Bob Balletto ’79, Fred Whouley ’98, Joe Savioli ’02, and Brian Doherty ’05. Also, playing in the game was Mike Kavanagh ’12 who was recently named to the Southern Professional Hockey League All-Rookie Team as a member of the Fayetteville Fire Antz.

Awards were given to Ryan Warsofsky ’11 for “Best Giveway Pizza,” Sean Pero ’05 for “Best Style,” and for “Most Valuable Player.”

However, the highlight of the evening was after the game with the family skate. Many former Colonels brought their wives/girlfriends and children out on the ice to skate with current Colonels' players.

“It is always such a great experience to hear the stories get bigger and the laughs get louder. We have a proud group of alumni that are passionate about Curry College and we can’t wait to see them at our games in the fall," said Colonels' Head Coach T.J. Manastersky.

On Saturday April 20, Curry College Men’s Lacrosse Alumni played in an alumni game before the current men’s and women’s teams hosted Western New England.  The game was an overwhelming success, although we are sure some of the alumni didn’t agree when they tried to get out of bed Sunday morning! We are looking forward to setting a date for both the fall alumni game and the inaugural golf tournament next fall.
