Hockey Upends Johnson & Wales, 3-2

Pawtucket, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales University hockey team suffered a 3-2 setback against Curry in an ECAC Northeast contest at Lynch Arena on Saturday evening.  The game was the final home game for seniors Adam Bolotin (Vernon Hills, Ill.), Max Carter (Royal Oak, Mich.), Jason Pietrasiak (Shrewsbury, Mass.), Danny Kaufman (Scotch Plains, N.J.), Matt Cooper (Perrysburg, Ohio) Trevor Jewell (Muskegon, Mich.), Erick Vos (Kalamazoo, Mich.) and Ryan Kelly (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.).

The two teams battled through a scoreless first period with JWU holding a 12-10 advantage in shots heading into the locker room for the first intermission.

Johnson & Wales got on the board at the 8:29 mark of the second stanza when an unassisted tally by freshman Josh Obregon (Omaha, Neb.) put the Wildcats up 1-0.  Curry struck with just :04 left in the second as a goal by sophomore Braeden Ruud (Vermilion, Alberta) to knot the game at 1-1.

The visiting Colonels took the 2-1 lead just :35 seconds into the third period on a tally by freshman Patrick LeBeau (Park Ridge, Ill.).  Curry extended their lead to 3-1 when senior Ian DeLong (Kutztown, Pa.) put in what would prove to be the game-winner at the 3:43 mark.  With time running out, the Wildcats pulled the goalie and Jewell was able to score with the man advantage to cut the lead to 3-2 with 1:02 remaining.  It wouldn’t be enough, however as Curry held on for the 3-2 victory.

Cooper made 24 saves in net for JWU while senior Joe Dawson (Woodbury, Minn.) tallied 27 stops in goal for Curry.

With the loss Johnson & Wales falls to 8-15-1 for the year and 4-7-1 in the ECAC Northeast while Curry improves to 10-10-4 on the season and 6-3-4 in league play.  Johnson & Wales will return to action on Tuesday, February 19th when they travel to Becker for an ECAC Northeast contest starting at 2:40 p.m. (Game Recap Courtesy of Johnson & Wales Sports Information)
