Hockey Tripped Up 4-2 at New England College in Non-Conference Action
HENNIKER, N.H. - New England College men’s hockey would net two third period goals, including a short-handed score, beating the visiting Curry College Colonels 4-2 Tuesday evening.
 
With the win the Pilgrims improve to 7-11-2 overall, while the loss drops the Colonels to 8-9-2 on the season.
 
NEC would open the scoring midway through the opening period as Ben Souders (Downington, Pa.) would net his third goal of the season assisted by Jonatan Nilsson (Vimmerby, Sweden) and Sho Kwachi (Tokyo, Japan) just seconds into a Pilgrims power-play.
 
Curry would knot the game just before the first intermission as Brandon Gilmore (Quincy, Mass.) would fire a shot that would deflect off NEC goalie Shawn Sirman  (Blezard Valley, Ontario) and sneak in with one second remaining in the first period.
 
The Pilgrims would notch the lone goal of the second period as Nilsson would come through with his first goal of the season putting in a pass from Garrett Brazzier (Mississauga, Ontario) converting on another Pilgrim power-play.
 
NEC would extend their lead to 3-1 five minutes into the third period as Kevin Maceau (Concord, N.H.) would intercept a pass and take it in for his first goal of the season.  Curry would get a goal back at the ten minute mark as Brandon Gilmore (Quincy, Mass.) would net a Colonel power-play goal assisted by Brett Kaneshiro (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) and Ian DeLong (Lions, Pa.). 
 
The Pilgrims would tack on a late goal by Kyle Manlow (Murretta, Calif.) would record a short-handed score assisted by Jonathan Boxill (Bracknell, England) solidifying the 4-2 victory.
 
NEC finished the game holding the slight 32-30 advantage in shots on net.
 
Sirman picked up the win in net for the Pilgrims finishing with 28 saves.  Curry’s Joe Dawson (Woodbury, Minn.) would record 28 saves on the evening.
 
NEC returns to action on Friday, Feb. 1 when they travel to take on ECAC East foe Norwich University.  Curry will take the ice on Thursday, Jan. 31 when they travel to take on Suffolk University. (Game recap courtesy of NEC Sports Information)
