Hockey Absorbs 5-1 Loss to Visiting Connecticut College

MILTON, Mass.- Curry College lost to Connecticut College, 5-1, in men's ice hockey action on Tuesday evening in Milton, Mass. With the win, the Camels improved to 4-6-3 overall. The Colonels fell to 7-7-1 on the season.

Despite the Colonels outshooting the Camels 13-10, Connecticut College took a 4-0 lead in the opening frame.  Freshman Stephen Brennan (Winchester, Mass.) tallied two of the Camels goals.  His first came at the 8:12 minute mark.  Junior Will Einstein (New Canaan, Conn.) won the face-off and sent a pass to Brennan who one-timed it past sophomore goaltender Derek Mohney (Amherst, N.Y.).  Sophomore Mike Martinez (Orchard Park, N.Y.) netted his first on the night off an assist by sophomore Will Leedy (Farmers Branch, Tex.).  The next two goals were scored 22 seconds apart.  Connecticut College won another face-off and skated the puck into Curry’s’ defensive zone.  Senior Dawson Luke (Wellesley, Mass.) sent a pass to an open junior Keith Veronesi (South Glastonbury, Conn.).  Veronesi took a slap shot right outside the slot that soared over the shoulder of Mohney.  The Colonels took a time out to regroup and freshman Charles White (Halifax, Nova Scotia) replaced Mohney in net.  Brennan earned his second with 5:14 remaining to play.  He skated around the goal and slid the puck just behind White.  The Colonels had their chances but the Camel’s freshman goaltender Tom Conlin (Norwood, Mass.) was solid in between the pipes.

Curry came out strong to start the second and scored their lone goal just over a minute into the period.  The Camels had a penalty at the end of the first that carried over.  With four seconds remaining on the man-up situation, Senior Ian DeLong (Kutztown, Pa.) got his team on the board.  DeLong was all alone on the right hand side of the net when he received a pass and maneuvered the puck around Conlin.  DeLong was assisted by senior Connor Hendry (Calgary, Alberta) and junior Mike Lopez (Newton, Mass.) The Colonels began the period with senior Joe Dawson (Woodbury, Minn.) in net.  Dawson allowed just one goal over the final 40 minutes.  Connecticut College scored their fifth and final tally of the night 41 seconds after DeLongs.  Freshman Sebastian Meltzer (Montreal, Quebec) answered back off assists by teammates, Leedy and junior Mike Sinsigalli (Redding, Conn.).   Both netminders played strong throughout the rest of the contest and held each other’s opponents scoreless.

Curry outshot Connecticut 38-32 and was 1-5 on power-plays.  The Camels went 0-6 on their man-up situations.

Curry's Mohney made five saves and allowed three goals in 14:14 minutes.  White made one save allowing one goal in 5:46.  Dawson finished the game in goal making 21 saves and allowing one goal in 39:12 minutes.  Conlin earned the win making 37 stops for Connecticut.
