MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's basketball team lost a 104-71 contest to visiting Nichols College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Saturday afternoon at the Katz Gymnasium on Senior Day. Prior to the game, the program honored its four seniors in a special ceremony.
The Bison had six players score in double figures led by sophomore Jaekwon Spencer (Bristol, Conn.), who netted a team-high 19 points to go along with three rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. Junior Matt Morrow (Leicester, Mass.) notched 17 points, seven caroms, two assists, and a block. Senior Kash Jackson (Canton, Ga.) added 14 points, three assists, and two steals. Senior DeAnte Bruton (New London, Conn.) (13), junior Nate Tenaglia (Tewksbury, Mass.) (13), and sophomore Jason O'Regan (Charlton, Mass.) (10) also scored in double figures for Nichols, who improved to 15-8 overall and 10-4 in conference play.
Leading the Colonels (5-18 overall, 1-13 CCC) was senior Daymeann Stewart (Milwaukee, Wis.) with 26 points, three boards, one assist, and one steal. Freshman Angelo Sardegna (Lutz, Fla.) 3-for-5 from three-point land and finished with 13 points. Senior Jared Thorpe-Johnson (Dorchester, Mass.) had 12 points, seven rebounds, and one assist while freshman Luke Townsend (Whitestone, N.Y.) added seven points off the bench.
Nichols jumped out to an early 12-point lead as Morrow converted a layup off a pass from O'Regan to make the score 18-6 with 14:59 left in the first.
After Curry cut the deficit to nine on a Thorpe-Johnson jumper with 12:58 to go (22-13), the Bison went on a 13-0 run to build a 35-13 advantage. Nichols kept the pressure on and entered the second half with a 14-point lead and kept the margin at double digits for the rest of the game as the contest ended with a 33-point margin, 104-71.
It was a hot-shooting night for the Bison as they were 49 percent (39-for-79) from the floor and went 14-for-36 from beyond the arc. The Colonels shot 28-for-64 (43 percent) from the field and 38 percent (8-for-21) from three.
Curry will wrap up the home portion of their schedule on Wednesday, February 19 against Salve Regina University on at 7:30 p.m. Nichols will next play at Roger Williams University on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
