Trio of Colonels Combine For 61 in Men's Basketball Loss to Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. – The trio of senior Daymeann Stewart (Milwaukee, Wis.), senior Jared Thorpe-Johnson (Dorchester, Mass.), and freshman Michael Ashley (Atlanta, Ga.) combined for 61 points as the Curry College men's basketball team dropped a 106-84 contest at Gordon College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play on Tuesday night at the Bennett Center.

The Fighting Scots (9-9 overall, 4-5 CCC) shot 54 percent from the floor and went 18-for-36 from three-point range led by a 9-for-16 effort by senior Eric Demers (Acushnet, Mass.), who finished with a game-high 31 points while tacking on eight rebounds, four assists, three steals, and two blocks. Senior Aljernod Terry (Orlando, Fla.) added a double-double of 20 points and 14 boards. Terry also pitched in five assists and a steal. Freshman Garrett Sattazahn (Morris, Conn.) and junior Parker Omslaer (Jackson, N.J.) each finished with 13 points to round out the Gordon student-athletes in double figures.

The Colonels (5-14 overall, 1-9 CCC) were paced by 26 points from Stewart. Thorpe-Johnson and Ashley also scored in double figures with 23 and 12 points, respectively.

Gordon pounded the glass and used strong three-point shooting to race out to a double-digit in the latter stages of the first half. After the teams played to a 29-29 tie in the opening 14:06, the Fighting Scots rattled off a 19-4 run which was capped off by a layup by Sattazahn to give the home team a 48-33 halftime lead.

Gordon pumped the lead to as many as 27 in the second half and never let the margin dip below 13. The Fighting Scots ended the game with a 40-28 edge in points in the paint and a 52-32 advantage in rebounding.

Curry will next play at the Wentworth Institute of Technology on Wednesday, February 5 at 7:30 p.m.  Gordon stays at home to host Endicott College on Saturday, February 1 at 3:00 p.m.
