Men's Basketball Tripped Up By Gordon in Conference Tilt

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's basketball team lost to visiting Gordon College by a 98-76 final in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Saturday afternoon at Katz Gymnasium.

The Fighting Scots improved to 5-2 on the season (1-0 CCC) while the Colonels fell to 3-5 overall (0-2 CCC). Senior Eric Demers (Acushnet, Mass.) scored a game-high 28 points as Gordon jumped out to a big lead and never looked back. Senior Daymeann Stewart (Milwaukee, Wis.) paced the Colonels with 27 points.

Curry held the advantage early as they jumped out to an early 10-5 lead following a shot by senior Kieran Carroll (Greenwich, Conn.) The Fighting Scots would grab the lead just two minutes later and not look back as the visitors would go into the locker room with a 49-26 lead.

Gordon led by as many as 26 in the second-half following a made triple by freshman Garrett Sattazahn (Morris, Conn.) as the score was pushed to 64-38 with 15:27 left in regulation. Back-to-back threes from junior RJ Hadfield (Warwick, R.I.) and senior Jared Thorpe-Johnson (Dorchester, Mass.) closed the deficit to 12, 80-68, with 7:52 to go.

That's as close as the Colonels would get as the Fighting Scots closed the game on an 18-8 spurt to capture the game in the 98-76 final.

Demers shot 11-for-21 from the floor and added five rebounds and one assist. Junior Parker Omslaer (Jackson, N.J.) registered a double-double with a career-high 23 points and tying a career high with 16 rebounds (1/5/19 at Nichols). Senior Aljernod Terry (Orlando, Fla.) also tallied a double-double with 13 points and 15 boards. Sattazahn rounded out the Gordon student-athletes in double figures with 13 points to go with four rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

In addition to his season-high 27, Stewart chipped in one carom, six assists, and a steal. Thorpe-Johnson followed with 18 points, four rebounds, and four assists, while Carroll finished with a stat line of 10 points, six rebounds, and three assists.

Curry will return to play on Friday, December 27 against the College of Staten Island in a tournament hosted by the Dolphins. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m. Gordon hosts Nichols College in a league match-up on Tuesday, December 10 at 7:30.
