Men's Basketball Falls to NVU-Johnson

MILTON, Mass. – Northern Vermont University – Johnson used an 11-0 run in the first half to break free to an 87-77 win over Curry College on Friday night in non-conference action at the Katz Gymnasium.

Junior Robert Dubose (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the Badgers scorers with 16 points, while sophomore Samuel Stephens (Gaithersburg, Md.) added 13 off the bench. Freshman Kiyl Mack (Chester, Pa.) followed with 12 points, four rebounds, three assists, and a steal. Sophomore Tyhee Taylor (Philadelphia, Pa.) and freshman Floyd Davis (Riverdale, Ga.) rounded out the NVU-Johnson scorers in double figures with 10 apiece.

Senior Jared Thorpe-Johnson (Dorchester, Mass.) tallied a game-high 21 points to pace the Colonels (3-1 overall) on 7-for-16 shooting. Freshman Angelo Sardegna (Lutz, Fla.) added 13 points while senior Kieran Carroll (Greenwich, Conn.) registered a double-double of 11 points and 12 boards.

In the first half, the Badgers took its largest lead of the half when freshman Jaymes Savage (Philadelphia, Pa.) converted two shots at the charity stripe to with 39 seconds remaining to make the score 37-24. Sardgena knocked down a triple on the following possession, but Savage answered back with a free throw right before the intermission to extend the lead to 38-26 at the intermission.

NVU-Johnson built its biggest lead of the contest at the 14:37 mark of the second half as Mack converted a layup to extend the advantage to 18, 54-36. The Colonels closed the gap to within five on a three by another triple by Sardegna to trim the deficit to five 66-61. The Badgers responded by pushing the lead back to double figures as the Badgers came away with the 10-point victory.

Curry shot 35.2 percent from the floor, compared to 41.9 percent for NVU-Johnson.

Curry will next play on Wednesday, November 20 at home against Emmanuel (Mass.) at 5:30 p.m. NVU Johnson (2-2) returns to action against Castleton University in the Granite City Shootout on Friday, November 22 at 1:00 p.m.
