MEDFORD, Mass. – The Curry College men's basketball team picked up its second straight win with an 86-77 victory over Lesley University in non-conference action at Medford High School on Saturday night.

The Colonels led for nearly the whole game and improved to 2-0 overall on the young season. Senior Jared Thorpe-Johnson (Dorchester, Mass.) put up a team-high 20 points on 8-for-17 shooting and also grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Curry. Senior Daymeann Stewart (Milwaukee, Wis.) chipped in 19 points while classmates Spencer Feng (Keene, N.H.) and Kieran Carroll (Greenwich, Conn.) added 14 apiece.

Junior Chase Howard (San Diego, Calif.) netted a game-high 26 points on 8-for-18 shooting to pace the Lynx (0-1 overall). Juniors Kostas Tatsis (Athens, Greece) and Kyle Murphy (West Warwick, R.I.) came off the bench to contribute 17 and nine points, respectively.

Curry jumped out to a 9-3 lead following a three-pointer from Feng and they never looked back. The Colonels widened the gap to as many as 12 in the stanza, taking a 17-5 lead on a lay-up by Carroll with 16:26 remaining in the half. However, Lesley would climb back into the game and cut the lead to just one on a lay-up from freshman Dean Grant (Goodyear, Ariz.) with 7:27 left. Curry then answered right back and stretched the advantage back to double figures on a lay-up by Thorpe-Johnson with under five minutes to go. The Lynx would get as close as five before the end of the half as the Colonels entered the half with a 44-39 lead.

Lesley got as close as four when Tatsis converted a layup to make it 76-72 with 3:27 remaining, but the Colonels answered back with a 10-5 run to close the game for the 86-77 final.

Curry shot 47.9 percent for the game and held a 13-4 scoring edge in points off turnovers. The Colonels doubled up the home team in second-chance points while the squads were even at 44 in points in the paint. Lesley shot 39 percent as a team and committed 12 turnovers.

Curry opens its home slate on Thursday, November 14 against Castleton University at 5:30 p.m. Lesley (0-1 overall) travels to Rivier University for its next game on Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
