MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's basketball team opens its second season under head coach Joe Busacca with tons of optimism. With a large incoming freshman class and a talented group of returners, Busacca is excited to see the how the team meshes this season.

Players To Watch

Jared Thorpe-Johnson (Dorchester, Mass.): Jared was a Third Team All-Conference member last year, averaging 19.6 points per game. Jared is a tremendous player but what's separated him this offseason is the strides that he has made as a leader.  

Daymeann Stewart (Milwaukee, Wis.): Daymeann is a combo guard that will play a big role for us this year. He has the ability to be one of the best two-way guards in our league and we are excited to see the impact that he will make on our program this season.

Kieran Carroll (Greenwich, Conn.): Kieran is one of the hardest workers in our program. He possesses a specific skill set that allows him to be a threat inside and out. We expect Kieran to play a big role for us from a forward position.

Top Returning Players

Spencer Feng (Keene, N.H.): Spencer was ranked ninth in the CCC in three-point field goal percentage last season at 42%. He will be one of the best three and D players in our league. Off the court, his leadership really stands out. We are looking forward to seeing him have a great senior year.

RJ Hadfield (Warwick, R.I.): RJ is one of the better shooters in the conference. He had five games with five or more made three-point field goals last season. We are excited to see him take the next step as a leader this year and continuing to grow as a player.

Seth Foley (Bristol, Conn.): Seth is someone who has worked extremely hard at transforming himself as a player on the court and in the weight room. We feel he has tremendous potential and are extremely excited to see his growth throughout the season.

Dwayne Boothe (Jamaica, N.Y.): Dwayne is someone who has worked extremely hard in the weight room this offseason. He is someone that a lot of the guys look to for leadership and he is the heart of our locker room. We are excited to see Dwayne's development throughout the season.

Jon Joel (Cranston, R.I.): Jon is a pure point guard who has put countless hours in the weight room in the offseason and transformed his body. We are excited to see his development on the court this year.

Top Newcomers

Michael Ashley (North Atlanta, Ga.): Michael has uber potential. We feel like he could stand out for us and has shown flashes of being a special player. He can score it in bunches and defensively will be looked at to be our anchor inside.

Angelo Sardegna (Lutz, Fla.): Angelo is a scorer, a talented combo guard who can score at all three levels. He is extremely coachable and his work on his craft has stood out early this season. He is also a very good playmaker and has shown the potential to be a lock-down defender.

Nabi Mwesiga (Staten Island, N.Y.): A pure point guard who can get to the rim at will. His willingness to be coached and to be a leader has been a joy to watch for our coaching staff. We are really excited to see his growth throughout his first year.

Angel Dejesus (Hartford, Conn.): Angel is a talented wing; he provides us with another scorer who can score at all three levels. What stands out most about Angel is his desire to get better and his defensive prowess.

Luke Townsend (Whitestone, N.Y.): Luke is one of the purest shooters we have seen. He boasts a high IQ and a unique style of play. He is extremely crafty and can finish around the basket, in the mid-range, and in a variety of ways.

Cecil Villa (Springfield, Mass.): Cecil is one of the best catch-and-shoot players in Mass. He is a physical, smart, rugged defender and an extremely gifted passer. We are excited about his development this year.

Michael August (Stratford, Conn.): Mike is a very good shooter, he can fill it up quickly. An extremely hard worker. He is one of the toughest kids we've been around and we are excited to see the progress he makes throughout the season.

Zac Rafano (South River, N.J.): Zac is the definition of a lead guard. He is a pure a point guard as you could have, extremely comfortable with running a team, and being a leader. We are excited to see his development throughout the season.

Brandon Holland (Whitestone, N.Y.): Brandon is a high-level scorer. He can get to the rim at will and shoot the three. Brandon is also a very good on-ball defender. He has the potential to be a really good player and we excited to see his growth throughout the season.

Expectations For Season

The expectation for the season for the Curry men's basketball program is simple. We want to get better every day. We are going to come to work every day trying to get our players better. We expect our players to come to work every day to compete with each other and get each other better, regardless of the outcome we refuse to be attached to it. This is a process for us as a whole and we are extremely excited with the guys in our program. We feel like this could be a year where a lot of people get an idea of what Curry's identity is and the amount of work that our players, coaching staff, and administration has put into the program.

Talk About Your Coaching Staff

Joe Reedy: Coach Reedy has been instrumental in the day-to-day operations of our program. He was taken our recruiting efforts to the next level and has established relationships with so many high school and AAU coaches. His development as a coach has been profound and I am excited about the ideas and plans he has for our program defensively. Coach Reedy will also play a huge role in the continued development of our bigs.

Alex Stein & Louis Stein: Alex and Louis Stein are both former players who will provide a ton of experience and knowledge for our younger guards. They have the understanding of what we are trying to do here and will be able to develop and help our younger guys on a day-to-day basis.

The Colonels begin the 2019-20 regular season on Friday, November 8 at Rivier for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
