Men's Basketball Absorbs 120-76 Loss To Nichols in CCC Play

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's basketball team lost a 120-76 conference contest to visiting Nichols College at the Katz Gymnasium on Tuesday night. With the victory, the Bison improve to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC). The Colonels fall to 0-8 overall and 0-3 in league action.

Nichols wasted little time building a lead as they gained an 18-2 advantage on a made jump shot by sophomore Nate Tenaglia (Tewksbury, Mass.) with 15:25 remaining in the first half.

The Colonels began to chip away at the lead and cut the deficit to run to 21 following a three-pointer by junior Dashawn Williams (New Haven, Conn.) with 12:19 to go in the first half. The trey made the score 28-15.

The lead for the Bison would reach 31, the largest of the first half after Kash Jackson (Canton, Ga.) knocked down a layup to give Nichols a 65-34 lead at the break.

The lead would balloon to over 40 in the second stanza and got all the way to 44 on the final basket for the Bison, a layup from freshman Jaden Feaste (Nassau, Bahamas) with 51 seconds left in regulation to make the final score 120-76.

Deante Bruton (New London, Conn.) led the way as he tallied 16 points on 6-for-9 from the field, including 4-for-7 from distance. Tenaglia chipped in 14 while senior Marcos Echevarria (Lynn, Mass.) finished with 12 points. Junior Jerome Cunningham (Westbury, N.Y.) concluded the night one rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine boards. Senior Josiah Kimball (Saint Johnsbury, Vt.) paced the Bison reserves with 10 points.

Jared Thorpe-Johnson (Dorchester, Mass.) tallied a game-high 21 points in the defeat for the Colonels. The junior shot 7-for-12 from the field, including 1-for-4 from three. Williams added 19 points to join Thorpe-Johnson. Rounding out the scorers in double digits was sophomore RJ Hadfield (Warwick, R.I.) with 10 points off the bench.

Nichols shot 56.3 percent from the field for the contest while the Colonels shot at a 40.6% clip.

Curry returns to action on Thursday when they head to Eastern Nazarene for a 7:00 p.m. tip. Nichols will next play Saturday as they will host Anna Maria College for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
