BOSTON, Mass. – UMass Boston shot 53 percent in the first half en route to a 75-51 victory over Curry College on Saturday night in non-conference men's basketball action in the opening game of the first annual Paula Titus Memorial Tournament.

Javaris Hill (Lynn, Mass.) led the Beacons with 14 points and added six rebounds, two assists, and two steal as UMass Boston improved to 2-0 overall. Kevin Nunez (Dorchester, Mass.) was the final Beacon in double-figures scoring with 11 points. Charles Mitchell (Boston, Mass.) paced the starters with nine points.  

Kieran Carroll (Greenwich, Conn.) netted 21 points and grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds for a monster double-double for Curry (0-3 overall). Alex Stein (Mount Olive, N.J.) was the leading scorer off the bench with 12 points and added five boards.

A layup by Hill with 15:10 to play in the first half gave the Beacons its first double-digit lead at 13-2. UMass Boston then stretched the lead to as many as 17 in the opening stanza, but the Colonels were able to cut the deficit to 14 heading into halftime, thanks to a made layup from Carroll to make the score 41-27.

UMass Boston led by as many as 27 points in the second half. The Beacons shot 44 percent for the game while a 44-37 advantage on the glass.

Curry will face Fisher College in the consolation game of the Paula Titus Memorial Tournament on Saturday, November 17 at 1:00 p.m. UMass Boston squares off against St. Joseph's (Vt.) in the championship game of the tournament on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
