Men's Basketball Tripped Up By Roger Williams in CCC Play, 96-76

BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University men's basketball team soared past Curry College this Saturday, earning their 17th win of the season with a score of 96-76.

JJ Pfohl (Trumbull, Conn.) started the game with a layup assisted by Nick Marini (Loudonville, N.Y.) for the Hawks. John Coleman (Warwick, R.I.) was the first to score for the Colonels with a jumper at 17:35. RWU used a 10-2 run to put the score at 14-6 with 14:21 left in the half. Austin Coene (Tyngsborough, Mass.) led the Hawks both offensively and defensively with nine points and three steals in the first six minutes.

The rest of the first half was dominated by the Hawks, shooting 66.7% from the field. Three Hawks were in double figures with Coene leading with 16 points. Pfohl and Marini each contributed with 14 and 10 points respectively. RWU increased their lead steadily throughout the half, never letting Curry get back into the game. The Hawks finished out an impressive first half with a score of 56-30.

The second half started with a three-pointer by Coene and an assist from Marini. The teams went back and forth bringing the score to 61-36 with 17:22 left in the game. RWU went on a 9-2 run led by Conor O'Brien (Sharon, Mass.) with seven points. The Hawks never looked back with a combined team effort to keep up their strong lead.

Ten Hawks were able to put points on the board, including Bryan Donovan (Gainesville, Fla.) with 13 points. RWU was able to get their highest lead of the game at 70-38 with 14:32 left. However Curry did not stop fighting and was able to cut the deficit to 16 with 1:36 left in the game. Ultimately, the score finished at 96-76 in favor of the Hawks.

Coene led the Hawks with 20 points and four steals. Pfohl had 18 points and six rebounds. Marini had 15 points and nine assists.

Leading the Colonels was RJ Hadfield (Warwick, R.I.) with 14 points. Lherief Kenku (Brockton, Mass.) had 11 points and six rebounds. Both Nick George (Rockland, Mass.) and Jared Thorpe-Johnson (Dorchester, Mass.) had nine points.

Roger Williams (17-6, 11-5 CCC) will travel to Gordon College on Tuesday. Curry College (1-22, 1-15 CCC) will travel to University of New England on Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m.
