Men's Basketball Hangs Tough in Loss to Endicott, 72-62

 

 

 

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's basketball team kept it close in a 72-62 loss to Endicott College on Saturday afternoon in conference men's basketball action at the Katz Gymnasium.

Keith Brown (Pelham, N.H.) scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Gulls, who improved to 13-6 overall and 8-4 in Commonwealth Coast Conference play on the season. Nick Thibeault (Gorham, Maine) added 15 points and chipped in three rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block. Joel Villa (Bronx, N.Y.), Rob O'Brien, and Matt McDevitt (Cumberland, Maine) each pitched in nine points while Vinny Clifford (Danvers, Mass.) was the leading scorer off the bench with four.

Jared Thorpe-Johnson (Dorchester, Mass.) netted 15 points and shot a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line to pace the Colonels (1-18, 0-12 CCC). Lherief Kenku (Brockton, Mass.) chipped in with 13 points and six rebounds while John Coleman tacked on 12 points and 14 boards. Kieran Carroll (Greenwich, Conn.) came off the bench to score nine points and handed out two assists.

Endicott jumped out to an early 11-2 lead over the first five minutes, but Curry would respond with a 7-0 run to pull within two, 11-9. The Gulls' lead would hover around six or less points for the next few minutes as they would eventually stretch the lead to seven at 22-15 with 4:58 left in the stanza following a three from McDevitt. A quick 5-0 run pulled the Colonels within two with 3:34 to go, but a layup from Villa and a three from Brown in the waning seconds of the first half sent the Gulls into the half with a 27-20 advantage.  

Curry came out strong to start the second half, tying the contest at 45 with 9:36 left. Endicott quickly answered back with five straight points and would stretch the lead to 13 at 69-56 with 2:42 remaining on a layup by Brown. The Colonels were able to cut the deficit to as few as eight in the final minute but two free throws by Rob O'Brien (Rindge, N.H.) pushed the final score to a double-digit game, 72-62.  

Curry will next play at Nichols College on Tuesday, January 30 at 7:30 p.m. Endicott returns to action at Western New England on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
